Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme

⇒ “Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme” has been notified on 24 February 2021, with the objective to boost domestic manufacturing, investments and export in the telecom and networking products Department of Telecommunications.

Now, after extensive consultations with stakeholders, the operational guidelines for the scheme have been issued on 3rd June 2021.

Key Points:

The PLI Scheme will be implemented within the overall financial limits of ₹ 12,195 Crores only for implementation of the Scheme over a period of 5 years. For MSME category, financial allocation will be ₹1000 Crores.

Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) has been appointed as the Project Management Agency for the PLI scheme. The Scheme is open to both MSME and Non-MSME Companies including Domestic and Global Companies.

Indus Best Mega Food Park at Raipur

⇒ Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Shri Narendra Singh Tomar virtually inaugurated the Indus Best Mega Food Park at Raipur along with Shri Bhupesh Baghel, Chief Minister, Chhattisgarh on 3 June 2021.

Benefits:

On the occasion, Shri Tomar said that the Mega Food Park will ensure value addition, longer shelf life for farm produce, better price realization for farmers, excellent storage facility and will provide an alternate market for farmers in the region.

The Park will also provide direct and indirect employment to about 5,000 persons and benefit about 25,000 farmers in the CPC and PPC catchment areas.

    • Mega Food Park at Raipur, Chhattisgarh is being implemented by M/s Indus Best Mega Food Park Pvt Ltd.
    • M/s Indus Best Mega Food Park Pvt Ltd has been set up in 63.8 acres of land at a project cost of Rs 145.5 crore.
    • The facilities at Central Processing Centre (CPC) of this Mega Food Park include Cold Storage, Pack House, Dry warehouse, Boiler, Aseptic Pulping & Packaging Line for mango and tomato etc.

Acquisition by Unifeeder ISC FZCO

⇒ The Competition Commission of India approves acquisition of Avana Logistek Limited, Transworld Feeders Private Limited and Transworld Feeders FZCO by Unifeeder ISC FZCO.

Unifeeder is indirectly held by DPW, forming part of DPW group.

President of the 76th UNGA

⇒ Maldives Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid was elected president of the 76th UNGA with an overwhelming majority. Foreign Minister Shahid received 143 votes out of 191 ballots cast & defeated Afghanistan’s former Foreign minister Zalmai Rassoul.

India on 07 June 2021 voted for Maldives, for the post of president of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

This is a post held on an annual basis, rotated among various regional groupings. The 76th session (2021-22) is the turn of the Asia-Pacific group. This is the first time Maldives will occupy the office of PGA (President of the General Assembly).

Project Readiness Financing (PRF) Loan

⇒ The Asian Development Bank and the Government of India signed a $2.5 million project readiness financing (PRF) loan on 3 June 2021.

Objective:

The PRF loan has been signed to support project preparation and design activities to upgrade major district roads in Sikkim. It will help improve connectivity to important towns, rural areas, and pilgrimage and tourist destinations in the northeastern state.

ADB was established in 1966, it is owned by 68 member countries.

International Travelling Exhibition ‘Hunt for the Vaccine’

⇒ National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), an organisation under the Ministry of Culture is collaborating with the Science Museum Group, London for an international travelling exhibition “Hunt for the Vaccine”.

The exhibition is scheduled to be inaugurated in November 2022 at Delhi and from there it will travel to other venues across India including metro cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kolkata.

About Exhibition:

The exhibition will tell the story of the global effort to find new ways to develop vaccines at pandemic speed and look at vaccinations more broadly with a historical and contemporary view.

The exhibition will set out the scientific principles underlying a vaccine’s creation and efficacy, while capturing the behind-the-scenes work that accompanies their rapid development, production, transport, and delivery.

⇒ Tejinder Singh, a veteran White House correspondent and founder and editor of the India America Today newswire, was passed away in the US. India America Today is an independent media organisation and news provider based in Washington, DC.
