International Gita Mahotsav 2022

⇒ The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, visited Haryana from November 29 to 30, 2022.

» The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, graced the 7th International Gita Seminar in Kurukshetra, Haryana on November 29, 2022.
International Gita Mahotsav 2022:

» International Gita Mahotsav 2022 was organized in Kurukshetra from 19 November to 6 December, 2022.

» The 7th International Gita Seminar 2022 was organized on 29-30th November – 1st December, 2022 during the International Gita Mahotsav 2022.

    • The organizing committee of the Seminar was from Kurukshetra University and Kurukshetra Development Board.
Theme:

The 7th International Gita Seminar 2022 was organized on the theme “World Peace and Harmony: Insights from SrimadBhagavadagita (श्रीमद्भगवद्गीता के परिप्रेक्ष्य में विश्वशान्ति एवं सद्भाव)”.

Key Points:
    • During the 7th International Gita Seminar, thinkers and researchers from across the world gathered to deliberate upon this important issue affecting the very existence of the mankind.
    • Seminar was a multi-disciplinary platform with different departments and institutes from the disciplines of Philosophy, Sanskrit, Indic studies, languages, sciences and business management of Kurukshetra University held sessions for scholarly deliberations on the theme of the Seminar.

» Gita Jayanti festival being celebrated every year helps in bringing the message of SrimadBhavadagita. Since 2016, Gita festival is being organized at the international level.

Other Points:
    • On the occasion, Smt Murmu also launched the ‘Mukhyamantri Swasthya Sarvekshan Yojana’; and Haryana e-ticketing projects for all public road transport facilities as well as laid the foundation stone for a Medical College and Hospital in Sirsa through virtual mode.
    • Smt Murmu launched several state initiatives including the Nirogi Haryana scheme. The scheme offers free health screening of Haryana’s residents. Under the first phase of the health scheme, the families having income less than Rs 1.8 lakh (Antyodaya families) will be taken up as beneficiaries while the rest of the population will be covered in the subsequent phases.
    • The president also launched e-ticketing scheme. The government has decided to replace the existing manual printed ticket system with e-ticketing and national mobility card.

59th ABU General Assembly 2022

⇒ The 59th ABU General Assembly 2022 was held from 25th to 30th November 2022 at Hotel Pullman, New Delhi.

Inauguration:

» The General Assembly was Inaugurated on 29 November 2022 by Minister of Information and Broadcasting Shri Anurag Singh Thakur in New Delhi in the presence of Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting Dr. L Murugan, and other officials.

    • Union Minister Shri Anurag Thakur said that, “presenting authentic information is the prime responsibility of media and that facts should be properly checked before they are put in the public domain”.
    • The Minister also deliberated on the collaborations and partnerships India has with ABU members and said that NABM, the apex training institute of Prasar Bharati is closely collaborating with ABU Media Academy in organising trainings covering various aspects of broadcast industry.
    • India has bilateral agreements in the areas of content exchange, co-production, capacity building, etc. with about 40 countries, a number of them are fellow ABU countries such as Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Fiji, Maldives, Nepal, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.
    • India have also partnered with Australia in the field of broadcasting in March 2022 for programme sharing. The broadcasters of the two countries are also exploring opportunities in co-production and joint broadcasting of programmes spanning multiple genres.
About 59th ABU General Assembly 2022:
Host:

Prasar Bharati, India’s Public Service Broadcaster, which controls the premier electronic media organizations All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan (DD) hosted the 59th ABU General Assembly 2022.

Theme:

The theme of the 59th ABU General Assembly 2022 was “Serving the People: Media’s Role in Times of Crisis”.

Participants:

Around 300 international delegates from 40 countries representing 50 organizations participated in the event.

Key Points:
    • The event also included the TV Song festival held on 27th November’ 2002 in Siri Fort Auditorium. The event coincided with the celebration of the 75th year of the India’s independence “Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav”.
    • Series of the international conferences were organised on the topics ranging from the Programming, Sports, Technical, Women’s Contribution and Participation, Planning and Strategy.
    • The Conference was the first of its kind in the Broadcasting sector after Covid pandemic and was held in the physical form.
    • The Conference strengthened the relations with Foreign Broadcasters, particularly from ASEAN countries, thus favoring the Act East Policy of the Government of India.
    • The Conference provided opportunities for Broadcasters to interact with each other, and discuss the challenges faced by Media industry in general and Public Service Broadcasters in particular.
    • The Conference also provided opportunity to India to showcase its rich culture to visiting foreign dignitaries, thus promoting tourism and “Atma Nirbhar Bharat”on the International stage.

IN Ships Shivalik and Kamorta Complete visit to South Korea

⇒ Indian Naval Ships Shivalik and Kamorta, during their stay at Busan from 21 to 23 November 2022, participated in multiple activities with the Republic of Korea Navy that included official and social interactions, cross-deck visits and sports fixtures.

Key Points:
    • The Commanding Officers of both Indian Naval Ships also called on Vice Admiral Kang Dong Hun, Commander Republic of Korea Fleet, who welcomed the IN ships and discussed avenues to further strengthen maritime cooperation between Indian Navy and the RoK Navy.
    • On departure from Busan, Shivalik and Kamorta undertook a Maritime Partnership Exercise with RoK Navy Ship No Jeok Bong.
    • The exercise signified the close bonds of friendship and further enhanced interoperability between both the navies.

International Jaguar Day 2022

⇒ International Jaguar Day is observed annually on November 29.

The National Zoological Park, New Delhi (Delhi Zoo) celebrated the International Jaguar Day, on 29 November 2022. On this occasion National Zoological Park organized activities like Zoo Walk and Expert talk on ‘Big Cats and Jaguars’.

Significance:
    • International Jaguar Day was created to raise awareness about the increasing threats facing the jaguar and the critical conservation efforts ensuring its survival.
    • International Jaguar Day celebrates the Americas’ largest wild cat as an umbrella species for biodiversity conservation and an icon for sustainable development and the centuries-old cultural heritage of Central and South America.
    • This is the third largest Cat Predator of the World and an important species of Amazon Rainforest.
    • International Jaguar Day also represent the collective voice of jaguar range countries, in collaboration with national and international partners, to draw attention to the need to conserve jaguar corridors and their habitats as part of broader efforts to achieve the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Jaguars:

    • Jaguars (Panthera onca) are often mistaken for leopards, but can be differentiated due to the spots within the rosettes on their coats.
    • While many cats avoid water, jaguars are great swimmers, and have even been known to swim the Panama Canal.
