Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu

⇒ Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief MK Stalin took oath as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 7, 2021. Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit administered the oath of office to MK Stalin at Raj Bhavan in Chennai.

New framework for implementation of the SVAMITVA Scheme

⇒ Union Minister for Panchayati Raj Shri Narendra Singh Tomar released on 04 May 2021 the new framework for implementation of the SVAMITVA Scheme, to mark the nationwide roll-out of the SVAMITVA Scheme.

The SVAMITVA Framework developed by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj. It provides a detailed roadmap and guidelines under the scheme for the various states.

Various components of the framework:

In the framework various components have been involved. Under which the Scheme objectives, year-wise funding pattern, survey approach and methodology, stakeholders involved and their roles and responsibility, monitoring and evaluation etc are included.

About SVAMITVA Scheme:

SVAMITVA is a Central Sector Scheme of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, which was nationally launched by the Prime Minister on the occasion of National Panchayati Raj Day on 24th April 2021.

SVAMITVA Scheme aims to provide property rights to the residents of rural inhabited areas in India by using Drone survey and CORS Networks which provides mapping accuracy of 5 cms.

Biodegradable and Compostable Yoga Mat

⇒ A biodegradable and compostable yoga mat has been developed from water hyacinth by six young girls from the fishing community in Assam. This mat is known as ‘Moorhen Yoga Mat’.

The ‘Moorhen Yoga mat’ named after Kam Sorai (Purple moorhen, a resident bird of Deepor Beel Wildlife sanctuary), comes in a cotton canvas cloth bag where no zip or metal closures are used. The bag has adjustable strap and closures that are effectively tailored to biodegradability.

It will soon be introduced to the world market as a unique product.

CEO and MD of automaker Stellantis India

⇒ Roland Bouchara has been appointed as the CEO and MD of automaker Stellantis India operations with full responsibility for the Jeep and Citroen national sales companies (NSCs), along with the group’s manufacturing activities.

UK-India Enhanced Trade Partnership Agreement

⇒ British Trade Secretary Liz Truss and Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal have signed the UK-India Enhanced Trade Partnership agreement, on 05 May 2021. The Partnership agreement is aimed at doubling bilateral trade by 2030.

The ETP will create immediate opportunities for British businesses in India across industries including food and drink, life sciences and the service sector.

MoU between India and United Kingdom on Global Innovation Partnership

⇒ The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi gives ex-post facto approval to the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of India and United Kingdom on Global Innovation Partnership (GIP). The MoU was signed between the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) of the United Kingdom.

Objectives:

GIP will support Indian innovators to scale up their innovations in third countries thereby helping them explore new markets and become self sustainable. It will also foster the innovative ecosystem in India.

GIP will also develop an open and inclusive e-market place (E-BAAZAR) for cross border innovation transfer.

MoU between India and United Kingdom of Great Britain, and Northern Ireland

⇒ The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the signing of Memorandum of Understanding on Migration and Mobility Partnership between the Government of India and Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain, and Northern Ireland.

Aim:

The MoU is aimed at liberalising issuance of visas promoting mobility of students, researchers and skilled professionals and strengthen cooperation on issues related to irregular migration and human trafficking between the two sides.

Dr Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan

⇒ Dr Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan died at Pathanamthitta, in Kerala on 05 May 2021. He was 104.

Dr Mar Chrysostom was an Indian prelate and the emeritus Metropolitan of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church. He was conferred with the Padma Bhushan award in 2018.

Bollywood Film Editor, Ajay Sharma

⇒ Bollywood film editor Ajay Sharma passed away in New Delhi on Tuesday night, 04 May 2021. He was in his late 30s.

Sharma was edited various Bollywood films such as Ludo, Jagga Jasoos, Karwaan, Indoo Ki Jawani, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, Tum Mile etc.

Founder of the CRRID, Chandigarh, Rashpal Malhotra

⇒ Founder of the Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development (CRRID), Chandigarh, Rashpal Malhotra died in Mohali on 04 May 2021. He was 84.

He was the executive chairman of CRRID and a member of the Board of Governors of Pushpa Gujral Science City. He was also a senate member of Punjabi University, Patiala, and Panjab University, Chandigarh.
