Report on Best Practices in the Performance of District Hospitals

⇒ NITI Aayog released a performance assessment report of district hospitals in India, titled Best Practices in the Performance of District Hospitals on 30 September 2021.

The report is an outcome of collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and WHO India. The National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers, a constituent board of the Quality Council of India, conducted the on-ground data validation.

Highlights of the Report:

» This report is the first-ever performance assessment of district hospitals undertaken across the country.

» The assessment framework covers 10 Key Performance Indicators across the domains of Structure and Output.

» A total of 707 district hospitals across all States and Union Territories participated in the performance assessment.

» The Health Management Information System (HMIS) data for the year 2017–18 has been used as baseline for this exercise.

» The framework classifies hospitals in three categories:

    • Small Hospitals (less than or equal to 200 beds)
    • Mid-sized Hospitals (between 201–300 beds)
    • Large Hospitals (more than 300 beds)

» The report documents some of the best practices of the top performing district hospitals in each of the hospital categories across the 10 indicators.

» Overall, 75 district hospitals across 24 States and Union Territories emerged as top performers on indicators ranging from availability of beds, medical and paramedical staff, core health and diagnostic testing services to outputs such as bed occupancy rate and number of surgeries per surgeon.

Jal Jeevan Mission App & Rashtriya Jal Jeevan Kosh

⇒ Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi interacted with Gram Panchayats and Pani Samitis/ Village Water and Sanitation Committees (VWSC) on Jal Jeevan Mission on 2nd October, 2021.

Jal Jeevan Mission App:

Prime Minister launched the Jal Jeevan Mission App for improving awareness among stakeholders and for greater transparency and accountability of schemes under the Mission.

Rashtriya Jal Jeevan Kosh:

Prime Minister also launched Rashtriya Jal Jeevan Kosh.

Rashtriya Jal Jeevan Kosh, where any individual, institution, corporate, or philanthropist, be it in India or abroad, can contribute to help provide tap water connection in every rural household, school, anganwadi centre, ashramshala, and other public institutions.

About:

Pani Samitis play a key role in planning, implementation, management, operation and maintenance of village water supply systems, thereby providing clean tap water to every household on a regular and long-term basis.

On 15th August, 2019, Prime Minister announced the Jal Jeevan Mission to provide clean tap water to every household.

1st edition of the Election Commission of India Annual National Essay Contest on Election & Democracy

⇒ The Election Commission of India (ECI) launched the inaugural edition of “The Election Commission of India Annual National Essay Contest on Election & Democracy,” on 01 October 2021.

The National Essay Contest is being conducted jointly by India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) & Jindal Global Law School (JGLS), O.P. Jindal Global University, Sonipat, Haryana.

The Competition was opened on 2nd October, 2021 and the last date for the submission of entries was 21st November, 2021. The revised deadline for submission of entries is 15th December 2021.

Two Topics for the National Essay Contest:

Topic 1: ‘Legal Framework for Social Media Regulations During Elections’

Topic 2: ‘The ECI’s Role in Protecting and Preserving Electoral Democracy’

Objective:

The main objective of this essay competition is to encourage law students to engage in contemporary research and explore new dimensions of the law governing elections in India.

» The submissions can be either in English or in Hindi.

» Students pursuing under-graduate, graduate (three/five year) and post-graduate law degree courses in Indian universities / institutes / colleges recognized by the Bar Council of India are eligible to participate.

India Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai

⇒ Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi addressed the gathering at the India Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai on 01 October 2021.

    • The six-month Expo 2020 Dubai will run up to March 2022.

» The India Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai is one of the biggest platforms that offers a golden opportunity to showcase India to the world and project the country as the next hub for growth and innovation.

» India Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai is the first one to be held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia region.

» India Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai will showcase resurgent India’s march to becoming a USD 5 Trillion economy.

Theme:

The main theme of Expo 2020 is: ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’.

“The spirit of this theme is also seen in India’s efforts as we move ahead to create a New India. This expo is also testimony to the resilience of mankind against the once in a century pandemic.”

The theme of India’s pavilion is: Openness, Opportunity and Growth.

Under this, the pavilion will be focusing on 11 primary themes:

Climate and Biodiversity, Space, Urban and Rural Development, Tolerance and Inclusivity, Golden Jubilee, Knowledge and Learning, Travel and Connectivity, Global Goals, Health and Wellness, Food Agriculture and Livelihoods, and Water, each having a dedicated zone all underneath one gigantic roof

Addressing the India Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, PM said:

The Prime Minister stressed that today’s India is one of the most open countries in the world, open to learning, open to perspectives, open to innovation, open to investment.

India also offers you maximum growth. Growth in scale, growth in ambition, growth in results. Come to India and be a part of our growth story.

14th Season of the Indian Premier League

⇒ Indian Premier League 2021 was the fourteenth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Final Match Winner:

The IPL 2021 final match was held at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai, UAE on 15 October 2021.

Chennai Super Kings beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs in the final. This was the fourth IPL title for Chennai Super Kings.

Orange Cap (Most runs): Ruturaj Gaikwad of Chennai Super Kings (635 runs in 16 games – 1 hundred, 4 fifties)
