‘Barisu Kannada Dim Dimava’ cultural festival

⇒ The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the ‘Barisu Kannada Dim Dimava’ cultural festival at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi on 25 February 2023. He also took a walkthrough of the exhibition.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said that the Delhi-Karnataka Sangh is taking forward the glorious heritage. He remarked that the 75th-anniversary celebrations of the Delhi Karnataka Sangh are taking place at a time when the country is celebrating the Amrit Mahotsav of 75 years of independence.

Key Points:
    • In line with the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’, ‘Barisu Kannada Dim Dimava’ cultural festival was organized to celebrate Karnataka’s culture, traditions and history.
    • The festival was held under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
    • The festival provided an opportunity to hundreds of artists to showcase Karnataka cultural heritage through dance, music, drama, poetry etc.

Launch of First MCA BARGE YARD 75 (LSAM 7)

⇒ Missile Cum Ammunition (MCA) Barge, Yard 75 (LSAM 7) was launched by RAdm Sandeep Mehta, ACWP&A on 24 February 2023 at Guttenedevi, launch site of M/s SECON, Visakhapatnam.

About MCA BARGE YARD 75:
    • With all major and auxiliary equipment/ systems sourced from indigenous manufacturers, this Barge is proud flag bearer of “Make in India” initiative of Ministry of Defence.
    • Contract for construction of 08 x MCA Barge was concluded with M/s SECON, Visakhapatnam, a MSME, in consonance with “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives of the Government of India.
    • This Barge is being built with a service life of 30 years. The availability of MCA Barges will provide impetus to Operational commitments of IN by facilitating Transportation, Embarkation and Disembarkation of articles/ammunition to IN Ships both alongside jetties and at outer harbours.

⇒ NTPC Limited, the country’s largest power generating company has been ranked No.1 Independent Power Producers and Energy Traders Globally in the S&P Global Commodity Insights Top 250 Global Energy Company Rankings-2022.

    • These rankings are based on four key metrics- asset worth, revenues, profits and return on investment.
About NTPC:
    • NTPC is not just India’s largest power producer; it is one of the key pillars sustaining India’s economic growth and development.
    • With a share of 17% of the installed capacity, NTPC currently contributes 24% of the total electricity produced in India. NTPC’s goal has always been to deliver power that is economical, efficient, and ecologically sustainable.
    • To meet this objective, it offers a diversified energy mix comprising gas, wind, solar, hydro, floating solar and coal.
    • By 2032, NTPC is targeting non-fossil fuel-based capacity to make up nearly 50 per cent of the company’s portfolio, which includes renewable energy capacity of 60 GW and total portfolio of 130GW.

“Healthy Baby” Show Campaign in Secunderabad

⇒ The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has praised the “Healthy Baby” show campaign organized across Secunderabad Parliament Constituency on 24 February 2023.

Union Minister for Culture, Tourism and Development of North Eastern Region, G Kishan Reddy informed that the programme was initiated with distribution of enrollment forms for the “Heathy Baby Show” in every basti – every colony & society of Secunderabad Parliament Constituency.

    • He has also informed that the healthy children and their families were felicitated with certificates and ’Poshan Kits’.

2023 Abel Prize

⇒ Abel Prize 2023: Luis A. Caffarelli, The University of Texas at Austin, USA

Luis A. Caffarelli, 74, has won the 2023 Abel Prize “for his seminal contributions to regularity theory for nonlinear partial differential equations including free-boundary problems and the Monge–Ampère equation.”

About Abel Prize:
    • The Abel Prize is named after Niels Henrik Abel, Norway’s greatest mathematician throughout the times.
    • Niels Henrik Abel left lasting marks on the mathematical world. His mathematics have served as a base for a number of major technological breakthroughs, there amongst the development of the internet.
    • The Abel Prize was established by the Norwegian Parliament (The Storting) in 2002, on the occasion the 200-year anniversary of his birth.
    • The Prize is awarded by The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, on behalf of the Ministry of Education.
    • The prize includes a monetary award of 7.5 million Norwegian Kroner (roughly $ 720,000) and a glass plaque designed by Norwegian artist Henrik Haugan.
    • First awarded in 2003, the Abel prize “recognises pioneering scientific achievements in mathematics”.
    • The Abel Prize is often considered to be an equivalent of the Nobel prize, which does not have a maths category.

⇒ The 2023 Polyák Imre & Varga János Memorial Tournament was a wrestling competition held between 13 and 16 July 2023 in Budapest, Hungary.

    • It was held as the 4th of the ranking series of United World Wrestling in 2023.
Indian Winner:

» India won a total of one medal in the 2023 Polyák Imre & Varga János Memorial Tournament.
