Uttar Purvi Mahotsav 2024
⇒ Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region managed through its CPSE, North Eastern Handicrafts & Handlooms Development Corporation Limited (NEHHDC) organised the “Uttar Purvi Mahotsav 2024”- A cultural odyssey unveiling the richness of North East India.
- A five-day cultural extravaganza was held at Bharat Mandapam at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, from the 13th to 17th January, 2024.
Key Highlights of this Mahotsav includes-
Handicrafts, Handlooms and Agri-Horti produce:
- The Mahotsav highlighted the participation of 250 weavers, farmers, and entrepreneurs. It also served as a platform to showcase the unique aspects that make the North East Region a cultural jewel.
- The aim of the Mahotsav was to present the best of Northeast India under one roof with exquisite, handcrafted products, handloom & textiles, sustainable handicrafts, bouquet of GI products – indigenous fruits and organic products of Northeast India.
Panel Discussions:
- The engaging panel discussion on “Towards Prosperity: Catalysing North East’s Progress Towards a Viksit Bharat” aimed to highlight the region’s crucial role in driving the nation towards vibrancy and progress.
- The panel on “Women Leaders in the Northeast” delved into the diverse contributions of women leaders, and recognized their important role in laying the groundwork for resilient and sustainable communities in the region.
- Under the theme “Northeast in Action,” the panel on “Youth, Workforce, and the Economic Tapestry of India” aimed to unravel the compelling dimensions brought to the table by the youth and workforce of the Northeast.
Buyer Seller Meets:
- The festival provided a conducive platform for significant buyer-seller meets, fostering valuable interactions across various sectors.
- These sessions specifically focused on handlooms and handicrafts, agro and allied products, as well as tourism.
- Participants explored business opportunities, and establish meaningful connections within these key domains, further enhancing economic collaboration and growth.
Cultural Showcase:
- The festival also witnessed enchanting journey through traditional dances, mesmerizing performances, and a showcase of the region’s rich cultural heritage.
Cabinet approves Ayodhya Airport as an International Airport
⇒ The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has approved the proposal to declare Ayodhya Airport as an International Airport and naming it as “Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, Ayodhyadham”.
Elevating Ayodhya Airport to international status is paramount for realizing Ayodhya’s economic potential and its significance as a global pilgrimage site, opening doors to foreign pilgrims and tourists.
The airport’s name, “Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, Ayodhyadham,” pays homage to Maharishi Valmiki, the sage attributed to composing the epic Ramayana, adding a cultural touch to the airport’s identity.
PAiSA Portal Dashboard and PM SVANidhi Mission Monitoring Portal launched
⇒ Shri Hardeep S. Puri, Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, and Petroleum and Natural Gas, inaugurated a seminar on ‘Grievance Redressal Committee (GRC) for Street Vendors’ on 04 January 2024.

The seminar on ‘Grievance Redressal Committee (GRC) for Street Vendors’ was organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi on January 04, 2024.
Highlights:
- The seminar aimed to sensitise all States and Union territories on the importance of robust GRCs and brought together key stakeholders, including GRC members, to enhance their understanding of the legal provisions within the Street Vendors Act 2014.
- The seminar was attended by officials from the Union and State Government, partner from civil society organisations, member from GRC and other experts.
- The event served as a platform for capacity building among State officials and GRC members, to address the challenges faced by street vendors and ensure the protection of their rights.
- Participants also had the opportunity to exchange best practices from States and Union Territories that have successfully constituted and managed effective GRCs under the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014.
During the seminar, two websites, the refreshed PAiSA Portal Dashboard and the PM SVANidhi Mission Monitoring Portal, were launched by the Minister.
- These portals will provide real-time progress updates on the mission and scheme, fostering transparency and accountability.
