Climb-a-thon

⇒ Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh flagged-in a climb-a-thon organised by Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), Darjeeling to celebrate ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, in New Delhi on August 17, 2021.

Key Points:

» The climb-a-thon was organised at four smaller peaks of Sikkim Himalayas from April 20-25, 2021.

» The climb-a-thon, under the leadership of Group Captain Jai Kishan, was conducted at Mt Rhenock, Mt Frey, Mt BC Roy and Mt Palung, by a team of 125 mountaineers.

» The National Flag, measuring 7,500 sq ft and weighing 75 kilograms, was hoisted atop Mt Rhenock at an altitude of 16,500 ft above sea level.

» The feat was recorded as the biggest Indian National Flag hoisted atop a mountain in the Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records.

» The team also performed a world record 75-hour nonstop Surya Namaskar 2.51 lakh times at HMI, Darjeeling.

» The National Flag is planned to be displayed at different locations across the country. In addition, the team plans to display the Indian Flag over highest peak of South Pole in January 2022.

National Intellectual Property Awards 2020

⇒ Recently, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs & Food & Public Distribution and Textiles Shri Piyush Goyal conferred the National Intellectual Property Awards 2020 to the winners.

Addressing the award function, Shri Goyal said the key achievements include:

» Granting of 28,391 patents in 2020-21 as compared to 4,227 grants during 2013-14 (572% growth)

» Reduction in Time of patent examination from 72 months in Dec 2016 to 12-24 months in Dec 2020

» 14.2 lakh trademark registrations in 4 years (2016-2020) in comparison to 11 lakh during 75 years (1940-2015)

» India’s ranking in Global Innovation Index to 48th in 2020, (+33 ranks from 81st in 2015-16).

About National IP Awards:

Every year National Intellectual Property (IP) Awards are conferred by Office of Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The awards are conferred to recognize and reward the top achievers for IP creation, commercialization and enforcement, which have contributed towards strengthening IP eco-system in the country and encouraging creativity and innovation.

Awards are given to individuals, institutions, organizations, enterprises, police units and other legal entities.

Student Entrepreneurship Program’ (SEP 3.0)

⇒ Atal Innovation Mission NITI Aayog in collaboration with La Fondation Dassault Systemes (Dassault Systemes Foundation) in India launched the third series of the ‘Student Entrepreneurship Program’ (SEP 3.0) for the young innovators of Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL) on 16 August 2021.

Theme:

The theme of SEP 3.0 is based on the ‘Made in 3D – Seed the Future Entrepreneurs Program’, conceptualized and rolled out in France by La Main à la Pate Foundation and La Fondation Dassault Systemes Europe in 2017.

The program is designed to motivate school students to become future innovators and entrepreneurs.

TRIFED GI Movement Identified 75 Products for GI Tag

⇒ On the occasion of India’s 75 years of Independence, 75 new tribal products launched by TRIFED and added to the already extensive, attractive Tribes India catalogue.

TRIFED in alignment with the objectives of INDIA@75-The People’s Movement has identified 75 products of Tribal origin or source.

Under TRIFED GI Movement, these identified 75 products will be registered for Geographical Indication (GI) Tag under the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999, India.

  • The Tribal products for GI Tagging have been identified from twenty Indian states.
  • Out of 75 identified GI Tribal products, 37 such products belong to eight states of North East.
  • From Tribal heartland states, 7 products from Jharkhand and 6 products from Madhya Pradesh have also been identified for GI Tagging.

International

Meeting of Union Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, and COP26 President

⇒ Union Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, Shri RK Singh called on Hon Mr Alok Sharma, COP 26 President. The COP26 President had raised the topic of phasing out of coal fired power plants, in the meeting.

The Hon Alok Sharma expressed the willingness of the UK side for collaborating with India on Green Hydrogen. Shri RK Singh expressed India’s interest in collaborating with the UK on offshore wind.

During the meeting, discussions were held on the need of increasing storage capacity in view of India’s ambitious target of having 450 GW of installed Renewable Capacity by 2030.

India has invited UK to participate in the upcoming bids for Green Hydrogen and lithium-ion.
