4th National EMRS Cultural, Literary and Kala Utsav - 2023

⇒ Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Shri Arjun Munda inaugurated the 4th EMRS National Cultural & Literary Fest and Kala Utsav- 2023, in the presence of Chief Minister, Uttarakhand, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, at Dehradun on 3rd October, 2023.

    • The event was hosted by Eklavya Vidyalaya Sangathan Samiti (EVSS), Uttarakhand at Maharana Pratap Sports College, Dehradun.
Organised by:

The National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, organised the 4th National EMRS Cultural, Literary and Kala Utsav – 2023, from 3rd October to 6th October in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

Key Points:
    • Understanding the need to integrate tribals with the mainstream and to help them access equal opportunities to develop in various fields, the Ministry has been organizing EMRS Cultural Fests and Sports Meet each year.
    • The Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) Cultural Fest provides tribal students a national platform to showcase their hidden talents in different spheres.
    • The four-day event witnessed performances from over 2000 tribal students from 22 States.
    • More than 20 events were organized in this fest, from dance and song performances to quiz and visual arts etc.
    • Stalls from different States were arranged to showcase tribal cultural displays.
About EMRS:
    • EMRS is a Government of India scheme for model residential schools for Indian tribals (Scheduled Tribes) across India.
    • EMRS Scheme is one of the flagship interventions of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and was revamped in the year 2018-19 to ensure that tribal students get access to quality education in the remote tribal areas.

Khadi Mahotsav 2023

⇒ Celebrating Mahatma Gandhi’s 154th Birth Anniversary Union Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Shri Narayan Rane flagged off the Khadi Yatra and announced the ‘KHADI MAHOTSAV’ in Mumbai on 02 October 2023.

    • This festival was dedicated to supporting the “Vocal for Local” initiative and the ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’ envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In his inaugural address Shri Narayan Rane highlighted the ground-breaking initiatives by KVIC (Khadi and Village Industry) sector, showcasing significant growth aligning with the goals of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

    • KVI sales have surged more than four-fold, totaling Rs 1,34,629.91 crore in FY 2022-23 compared to Rs 33,135.90 crore in FY 2014-15, marking an increase of 306.29%.
    • KVI production has also increased over three-fold, reaching Rs 95,956.67 crore in FY 2022-23 compared to Rs 27,569.37 crore in FY 2014-15, indicating an increase of 248.05%.
Aboot ‘Khadi Mahotsav’:

KVIC (Khadi and Village Industries Commission) launched ‘Khadi Mahotsav’ across the country from 2nd October to 31st October, 2023, under the Ministry of MSME in coordination with Ministry of Textiles, Ministry of I&B, Ministry of Education, MEITY and other Ministries.

Tag line:

The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Govt of India celebrated “Khadi Mahotsav” with the tag line of “Khadi for Nation and Khadi for Fashion”.

Aim:

The aim of the campaign was to promote Khadi and Village Industries, handloom, handicrafts, ODOP (One District One Product) products, and various traditional and cottage industries produced locally.

» The festival showcased a diverse range of Khadi products from various states, including Khadi clothes, silk sarees, dress materials, kurtas, jackets, bedsheets, carpets, chemical-free shampoos, honey, and other household items, as well as exquisite art and handicrafts.

Shri Nitin Gadkari addresses the Ministerial Session at the 27th World Road Congress in Prague

⇒ Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari addressed the Ministerial Session at the 27th World Road Congress in Prague, Czech Republic, focusing on Road Safety.

Shri Gadkari emphasized adopting a holistic approach to minimize road crashes and fatalities by stakeholders at all levels. He reiterated Bharat’s special focus on spreading awareness to effect behavioral change and ensuring flawless enforcement of rules.

About 27th World Road Congress:

The 27th World Road Congress was held in Prague (Czech Republic) from 2 to 6 October 2023, confirming its role as a major event for the road sector worldwide.

Organised by:

The Congress was organised in close cooperation between PIARC (World Road Association), the Czech Road Society and PIARC Czech National Committee, with the support of the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic and the Slovak Road Association.

Theme:

The theme of the 27th World Road Congress was “Together on the road again”.

Highlights:
    • The congress brought together more than 6,000 participants from 120 countries, including 1,700 Czech and Slovak students, 4,000 delegates and 40 ministers and deputy ministers from around the world, who shared their views, best policies and practices over five days.
    • The Congress hosted 65 sessions, 16 workshops and 15 technical visits.
    • The program covered all the key aspects and topics of road infrastructure, valuable poster sessions, various specialised workshops, foresight sessions and much more.

69th Wildlife Week in India

⇒ National Zoological Park celebrated the 69th Wildlife Week with the theme “Partnerships for wildlife conservation”, honoring the people who are making a difference, on the theme of UN World Wildlife Day 2023 and activities in context to wildlife conservation.

    • National Zoological Park celebrated “Wildlife Week – 2023” from 02 October to 08 October, 2023.
About Wildlife Week:

» Wildlife Week is celebrated every year to coincide with the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and to follow his principles of Ahinsa and Compassion for all living beings.

    • The activities planned for the week at National Zoological Park aim at using inclusive and collective participation for the conservation cause.

UN World Wildlife Day 2024

⇒ United Nations World Wildlife Day (WWD) is celebrated every year on 3 March to celebrate wild animals and plants.

World Wildlife Day is an opportunity to celebrate the many beautiful and varied forms of wild fauna and flora and to raise awareness of the multitude of benefits that their conservation provides to people.

Theme:

The World Wildlife Day 2024 Theme is ‘Connecting People and Planet: Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation’.

History:
    • On 20 December 2013 at the 68th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), March 3 was declared United Nations World Wildlife Day (WWD).
    • This day holds significance as the day that the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) was signed in 1973.
    • The UNGA Resolution designated the CITES Secretariat as the facilitator for the global observance of this special day for wildlife on the UN calendar. UN World Wildlife Day has now become the global annual event dedicated to wildlife.
