‘Chintan Shivir’ of Home Ministers of States

⇒ The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi addressed the ‘Chintan Shivir’ of Home Ministers of States on 28 October 2022 via video conferencing.

» Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said that the Chintan Shivir is a prime example of cooperative federalism.

    • The Prime Minister said even though law and order are the responsibility of the states as per the constitution, they are equally related to the unity and integrity of the country.
    • “Every state should learn from each other, take inspiration from each other, work for the betterment of the country, this is the spirit of the constitution and it is also our responsibility towards the countrymen”.
About Chintan Shivir:

» Chintan Shivir was held at Surajkund, Haryana on 27 and 28 October 2022.

    • Home Secretaries and Director General of Police (DGPs) of the States, Director Generals of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Central Police Organisations (CPOs) also attended the Chintan Shivir.

» The Chintan Shivir of Home Ministers is an endeavour to provide a national perspective to policy formulation on internal security-related matters, in accordance with the Panch Pran announced by the Prime Minister in his Independence Day speech.

    • On the occasion of Independence Day 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for moving forward with 5 pledges to fulfill freedom fighters’ dreams by 2047.
    • ‘Panchpran’ (5 pledges) announced by the Prime Minister: First, move forward with bigger resolves and resolve of a “developed” India; second, erase all traces of servitude; third, be proud of our legacy; fourth, the strength of our unity and fifth, duties of citizens which include the PM and CMs.
Discussion:
    • The Shivir deliberated on issues like the modernisation of police forces, cybercrime management, increased use of IT in the criminal justice system, land border management, coastal security, women’s safety, and drug trafficking among others.
    • The Shivir, in the spirit of cooperative federalism, brought more synergy in planning and coordination between various stakeholders at the centre and state levels.

Investor Education, Awareness and Protection Conference in Srinagar

⇒ The Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA) under the aegis of Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) organised an Investor Education, Awareness and Protection Conference in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir on 28 October 2022 at Kashmir International Conference.

Inauguration:

The Conference was inaugurated by Chief Guest, Union Minister of State for Ministry of Corporate Affairs Shri Rao Inderjit Singh.

    • The event was also graced by Guest of Honour Dr Farooq Abdullah, Member of Parliament (Srinagar), Smt Anita Shah Akella, CEO IEPF Authority & Joint Secretary, MCA, Shri Sanjay Shorey, and other dignitaries.
Technical session:

The inaugural session was followed by a technical session on Financial Literacy as a tool for Economic development. The event was summed up with Nukkad Natak, quiz and other related activities on Financial Literacy involving School Students and other diverse audiences.

Participation:

The conference was attended by around 650 delegates which included students, professionals, academicians, housewives, artisans, CRPF personnel, panchayat representatives and general public from the UT of J&K.

During the inaugural session, Shri Rao Inderjit Singh and Dr. Farooq Abdullah released various major initiatives of IEPF Authority and MCA:
    • IEPFA Mascot “Fundoo” which was selected through Jan-bhagidari after a month-long open contest on MyGov platform. The mascot is conceptualised with an idea symbolizing IEPFA’s vision of taking investor awareness to the last mile with the objective of making it easier to connect with its message, mandate and initiatives.
    • “Niveshak Didi” which is a unique endeavour of IEPF Authority with India Post Payment Bank wherein Investor Education will be promoted in “By the women, for the women” concept. The Niveshak Didi i.e. female Dakiya has intense social connect to the rural population especially women.
    • “Niveshak Sarathi”, an investor awareness van was flagged by the Shri Singh and Dr Abdullah and is an initiative by IEPFA to promote financial literacy among people in far-flung areas by spreading knowledge through dedicated audio-visual and print material & a specially designed van equipped with a TV display, public announcement system, internet connectivity etc.
    • “Investors’ Handbook” – a concise compilation of information on savings, budgeting, and investments and provide a vast knowledge of financial instruments in capsule form thereby enabling them to make informed and sensible financial decisions.
    • “75 dedicated IAPs” in the Union territory of J&K to involve stakeholders of different segments of society in the caravan of Investor Awareness.
About IEPFA:
    • IEPF Authority has been established under sub-section (5) of section 125 of Companies Act, 2013 with the objective of promoting Investor Education, Awareness and Protection and for administration of the IEPF fund.
    • It has undertaken a wide gamut of activities to accelerate the pace of investor education among the masses at large.
    • Till date more than 65,000 Investor Awareness Programmes covering above 30 lakh citizens have been conducted by IEPFA.

International

Meeting between Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate change and the Committee on Environment of German Federal Parliament

⇒ Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav held fruitful meeting with the Committee on Environment of German Federal Parliament headed by Honourable Member of Parliament Mr Harald Ebner, on 27 October 2022, at Indira Paryavaran Bhawan, New Delhi.

Discussion:
    • In the meeting, they discussed global environmental, climate change and other related challenges, and how Germany and India can work together to find sustainable solutions to these challenges.
    • Issues related to sustainable lifestyle, circular economy, e-wastes, conservation of water bodies, drinking water, problem of fertilisers, urban migration, sectoral climate action plans and achievements were also discussed.
    • The German delegation appreciated the concrete environment and climate actions taken by India despite the huge size and population.
    • Concluding the meeting, both sides acknowledged the contribution of the Indo-German Bilateral Cooperation on environment and climate; and agreed to further strengthen the same and also explore how both countries can work together in areas like conservation of water bodies, circular economy, and e-waste.

2nd G20 Health Ministers Meeting in Bali

⇒ Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya addressed the second G20 Health Ministers Meeting in Bali, Indonesia on 27 October 2022.

» The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the progress and way forward on priorities in the healthcare sector.

Highlights:

» Speaking on the occasion, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya stated that “India is committed to contributing immensely to creating a future-ready and resilient global healthcare ecosystem”.

    • At the same time, he also elaborated on building global health resilience wherein the proposal of a Financial Intermediary Fund was discussed.
    • He also highlighted the need to acknowledge existing fault lines in the Global Health Architecture and the importance of building an inclusive, agile and responsive framework for health emergency management.
    • Dr Mandaviya also encouraged all G20 members to contribute their public keys to the proposed Global Federated Public Trust Directory for ensuring seamless worldwide mobility of people and goods.
