Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi was awarded the ‘Sri Lanka Mitra Vibhushana’ by President Dissanayake on 05 April 2025.

  • The Dharma Chakra inscribed on the medal represents shared Buddhist heritage.
  • The Kalash with the motif of a vessel adorned with a heap of rice symbolises prosperity and renewal.
  • The Navaratna symbolises the enduring friendship between India and Sri Lanka, depicted in a globe adorned with sacred lotus petals.
  • Similarly, the Sun and the Moon are natural symbols of bilateral relations.
