Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan took oath as the 15th Vice President of India and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha on 12 September 2025.

The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu administered the Oath of Office of Vice President of India to Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan at a Swearing-in-Ceremony held at Ganatantra Mandap, Rashtrapati Bhavan.

  • Shri Radhakrishnan was formerly the Governor of Maharashtra. Shri Radhakrishnan became the third leader from Tamil Nadu to hold this prestigious post.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi attended the swearing-in ceremony of Thiru C.P. Radhakrishnan as the 15th Vice President of India.

Vice Presidential Election Result:

» The Election Commission had announced the schedule for the 17th Vice Presidential Election vide its Press Note dated 1st August, 2025.

  • The election for the post of Vice President was held on 9 September 2025 and the counting of votes also took place on the same day.

» Out of a total 781 electors who were eligible to vote, 767 electors exercised their franchise, out of which 15 ballot papers were declared invalid.

  • NDA nominee Shri Radhakrishnan emerged victorious in this election.
  • Shri Radhakrishnan bagged 452 votes, defeating the I.N.D.I.A. bloc candidate and former Supreme Court Judge B Sudershan Reddy by a margin of 152 votes.

About 15th Vice President of India, Shri Radhakrishnan:

» Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan was born on 4th May 1957 in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu. Mr. Radhakrishnan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

  • He started his political journey as a student leader. He was actively involved in organisations like RSS.
  • He was elected to the Lok Sabha twice from Coimbatore.
  • He also served as Governor of Jharkhand, Telangana, Maharashtra and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry.
  • In 2004, Shri Radhakrishnan addressed the UN General Assembly as part of the Parliamentary Delegation. He was also a member of the first Parliamentary Delegation to Taiwan.
