3rd National Water Awards-2020

Union Minister of Jal Shakti Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat announced 3rd National Water Awards-2020, on 07 January 2022.

  • In the Best State category, Uttar Pradesh has been awarded first prize, followed by Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.

The National Water Award is given to encourage and recognize individuals and organizations doing exemplary work in the field of water resources management.

The Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti given 57 awards to States, Organizations, Individuals etc. in 11 different categories.

11 different categories are:

Best State, Best District, Best Village Panchayat, Best Urban Local Body, Best Media (Print & Electronic), Best School, Best Institution/RWA/Religious organization for Campus usage, Best Industry, Best NGO, Best Water User Association, and Best Industry for CSR Activity

  • The award comprises of a citation, trophy and cash prize.

Winners of 3rd National Water Awards: (Only Rank 1st)

Best State: Rank 1 – Uttar Pradesh

Best District (North Zone): Rank 1 – Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh

Best District (South Zone): Rank 1- Thiruvanathapuram, Kerala

Best District (East Zone): Rank 1- East Champaran, Bihar

Best District (West Zone): Rank 1- Indore, Madhya Pradesh

Best District (North-East Zone): Rank 1- Goalpara, Assam

Best Village Panchayat (North Zone): Rank 1-  Dhaspad, Almora, Uttarakhand

Best Village Panchayat (South Zone): Rank 1-  Yelerampura Panchayat, Tumakuru District, Karnataka

Best Village Panchayat (East Zone): Rank 1- Telari Panchayat, Gaya District, Bihar

Best Village Panchayat (West Zone): Rank 1-  Takhatgadh, Sabarkantha, Gujarat

Best Village Panchayat (North-East Zone): Rank 1- Sialsir, Sirchip, Mizoram

Best Urban Local Body: Rank 1- Vapi Urban Local Body, Gujarat

Best Media (Print & Electronic): Rank 1- Mission Paani (Network 18)

Best School: Rank 1-Govt. Girls Hr. Secondary School, Kaveripattinam, Tamilnadu

Best Institution/RWA/Religious organization for Campus usage: Rank 1- Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Jammu

Best Industry: Rank 1- Welspun India Textile Ltd., Gujarat

Best NGO: Rank 1- Coastal Salinity Prevention Cell, Ahmedabad

Best Water User Association: Rank 1- Panchgachiya MDTW WUA, Hooghly, West Bengal

Best Industry for CSR activities: Rank 1- ITC Limited, Kolkata, West Bengal

Background:
  • The first National Water Award was launched by the Jal Shakti Ministry in 2018.
  • National Water Awards have provided a good opportunity to start-ups as well as leading organizations to engage and deliberate with senior policymakers on how to adopt the best water resources management practices in India.
