Change of Command of Western Fleet

⇒ The ‘Sword Arm’ of Indian Navy, the Western Fleet, underwent a change of guard on 15 November 2022.

A ceremonial naval parade was held at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai, and the baton of the Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet was handed over by Rear Admiral Sameer Saxena to the new Fleet Commander, Rear Admiral Vineet McCarty.

    • Rear Admiral McCarty was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 01 July 1989.

First Virtual Global Skill Summit

⇒ To facilitate overseas mobility of the skilled workforce, the Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship jointly organized the first Virtual Global Skill Summit (VGSS) on 15 November 2022.

Co-chaired by:

Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister for Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Shri Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution & Textiles co-chaired the Summit.

Aim:

The aim of the summit was to institutionalizing a robust mechanism for exchange of information on skill requirements of countries and the skill availability in India.

Discussion:
    • The Summit was organized with the Indian Ambassadors /High Commission representing India Missions from ten nations.
    • Indian Ambassadors from ten different countries namely Australia, France, Germany, Japan, Malaysia, Mauritius, Singapore, Tanzania, United Arab Emirates, and United Kingdom deliberated in this summit.
    • The summit deliberated on skill harmonization and bench marking of qualifications, quality standardization, capacity building, knowledge exchange to promote global mobility, employability, and readiness for the youth to join the global workforce.
Other Points:
    • The demographic dividend has given India a competitive advantage- almost 54% of India’s population is above 25+ years which presents a good opportunity to provide overseas employment opportunities to the Indian youth in countries facing acute & ever-growing shortage of workforce.
    • NSDC International has recently conducted study to assess skilled demand in 16 destination countries (2022-2027). Basis the analysis, it has been reported that employability and high-quality skilled workforce will be the key challenge in the coming years, thereby, mapping of the opportunities for the Indian workforce is needed. United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Germany are the top countries demand for the most skilled workforce in the future.

DEA, MoF; MoHUA; and the World Bank Group jointly organized a 5-day focused workshop

⇒ The Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Ministry of Finance (MoF); Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA); and the World Bank Group jointly organised a 5-day focused workshop titled “Cities Creditworthiness Academy” with the view to create an enabling ecosystem for financing future cities of India.

    • The workshop was held from 14th to 18th November 2022.
Theme:

The 5-day workshop was focused on the theme “Vision of Future Cities and Role of Municipal Financing”.

63rd Foundation Day of NBCC (India) Limited

⇒ The 63rd Foundation Day of NBCC (India) Limited, a Navratna CPSE under Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) was celebrated on 15 November 2022.

About NBCC:
    • NBCC (India) Limited, formerly known as National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited, was founded in 1960 as a Government of India Civil Engineering Enterprise, Headquartered in Delhi.
    • NBCC has emerged as the undisputed leader in the Construction Sector on the back of its capabilities, innovative approach, adherence to highest standard of quality, timely delivery and a dedicated workforce. It has successfully executed projects both in India and other countries, and has achieved the status of a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE).

Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas 2022

⇒ Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India along with other ministries and state governments celebrated the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas on 15 November 2022 across the country.

Janjtiya Gaurav Diwas was celebrated with patriotic fervor throughout Scheduled Areas with festivities viz several cultural programs, Swacchta Campaigns, tribal songs, dance, painting competitions.

Various competitions as a part of JanJatiya Gaurav Divas Celebrations, 2022:
    • The nationwide celebrations of Janjatiya Gaurav Divas witnessed a large number of programmes such as debate competition on the theme ‘Contribution of Janjati Heroes in freedom struggle’, social activities, etc in the educational institutions across the country.
    • To celebrate JanJatiya Gaurav Divas 2022 in the spirit of Jan Bhagidari, an online ‘Best Essay’ Competition on the theme of ‘My Inspiration from Birsa Munda’ was conducted by Ministry of Tribal Affairs, in coordination with MyGov.
    • In addition, Citizens were invited to participate in Dress Up Your Kids as Birsa Munda, an online ‘Best Costume’ Competition on the theme of ‘Unsung Tribal Heroes’, was conducted by Ministry of Tribal Affairs, in coordination with MyGov.
    • As a part of JanJatiya Gaurav Divas Celebrations, 2022, an online ‘Best Jingle’ Competition on the theme of ‘Philosophies of Birsa Munda’ was conducted by Ministry of Tribal Affairs, in coordination with MyGov.
    • Also, an online Quiz Competition on the theme of ‘Tribal Freedom Fighters’ was conducted by Ministry of Tribal Affairs, in coordination with MyGov.
Background:

» Government of India has decided to celebrate November 15 as ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas’ to mark the birth anniversary of Tribal Freedom Fighter “Birsa Munda” from year 2021 onwards.

    • Birsa Munda was an iconic freedom fighter, social reformer and revered tribal leader of the country, who fought bravely against the exploitative system of the British colonial government, and became a legendary figure in his lifetime, often referred to as ‘Bhagwan’.
    • Bhagwan Birsa Munda was not only a freedom fighter but also social reformer and led tribal movement, namely Ulgulan (Revolt) against exploitative systems of British Colonial Govt.
    • He is also known as Dharti Abba as he encouraged tribals to understand their cultural roots & observe unity.
