National:
  • Union Sports Minister Shri Kiren Rijiju recently launched the second edition of Fit India Cyclothon via social media. The 25 days mega cycling event was started on December 7, 2020 & it will end on December 31, 2020.
International Bharati Festival 2020:
  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will address the International Bharati Festival, 2020 on December 11, 2020 via video conferencing. This year the festival is being organised in virtual mode. In this festival, several national and international poets and artists will participate.
    The festival is being organised by Vanavil Cultural Centre. This festival is to celebrate the 138th birth anniversary of Mahakavi Subramanya Bharati.
4th India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2020:
  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed at inaugural ceremony of virtual 4th India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2020 on 08 December 2020. 

IMC 2020 is being organised by the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, and the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI). It is being held from 8 December to 10 December, 2020. This year theme for IMC 2020 is “Inclusive Innovation – Smart, Secure, Sustainable”.

International:

United Economic Forum World Summit 2020:
  • The fourth edition of United Economic Forum World Summit 2020 along with Trade Expo was held from December 4 to December 6, 2020. In three-day event more than 80 speakers from 30 countries was participated. The theme of the summit was ‘Imagine-Impact-Inspire’.
2020 United Nations Investment Promotion Award:
  • The United Nations (UNCTAD) has declared Invest India- the National Investment Promotion Agency of India as a winner of the 2020 United Nations Investment Promotion Award. The award ceremony was held on December 7, 2020 at UNCTAD Headquarters in Geneva.
    The award reflects the outstanding achievements and best practice of investment promotion agencies (IPAs) worldwide.
Important Day:
  • World Soil Day is celebrated on December 5, annually. This is to focus attention on the importance of healthy soil and to advocate for the sustainable management of soil resources.
    This year theme of World Soil Day 2020 is “Keep soil alive, protect soil biodiversity”. The Food and Agriculture Organization’ campaign on this theme aims to raise awareness of the importance of sustaining healthy ecosystems and human well-being.
Death:
  • Veteran Marathi actor Ravi Patwardhan died due to heart attack on December 6, 2020. He was 84.
Other:
  • Chinese e-commerce company JD.com Inc has become the country’s first virtual platform to accept Beijing’s homegrown digital currency yuan.
