National:

44th edition of annual Chennai Book Fair:

  • Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister O Pannerselvam on 24 February 2021 inaugurated the 44th edition of annual Chennai Book Fair at YMCA ground near Nandanam in Chennai.

The second largest Book Fair in the country was organised from 24 February to 9 March, 2021.

The Book Fair was organised by the Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India (BAPASI).

Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar- 2020:

  • Sahitya Akademi announced its annual Yuva Puraskar for the year 2020 in 18 languages, on 12 March 2021.

In the list of winners of Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar 2020 Ten books of poetry, Three of short stories, Two of Essays, One of Memoir, One of Criticism and One travelogue are included. 'Covidinu Munpum Seshavum' Book:

  • During the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) in Thalassery, a book ‘Covidinu Munpum Seshavum’ was released, which is authored by Kozhikode-based journalist A V Fardis & book is published by Trend Books.

International:

America's next ambassador to the United Nations:

  • US Senate confirms Linda Thomas-Greenfield as UN ambassador, on 23 February 2021.

She will be the third African American, and the second African American woman, to hold the job.

Sports:

R Vinay Kumar announced retirement from Cricket:

  • 37-year-old Karnataka medium pacer R Vinay Kumar on 26 February 2021 announced his retirement from international and first-class cricket.

He also represented India and led his state team to successive Ranji Trophy titles. He played one Test, 31 ODIs and 9 T 20 Internationals for India.

Death:

  • Retired IAS officer and former advisor (Welfare) to Telangana government, A Ram Laxman died on 24 February 2021. He was 77.
  • Malayalam poet Vishnunarayanan Namboothiri died on 25 February 2021 in Thiruvananthapuram. He was 81. He was conferred with the Padma Shri award in 2014.
    Some of his noted works are are- ‘Swaathandhryathe- Kurich Oru Geetham’, ‘Bhoomigeethangal’, ‘India Enna Vikaram’, ‘Aparaajitha’ among others.
