“CiSS application” under the Baal Swaraj portal

⇒ The National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has launched a “CiSS application” under the Baal Swaraj portal to help in the rehabilitation process of Children in Street Situations (CiSS).

About Baal Swaraj:
    • Baal Swaraj is a portal launched by NCPCR for online tracking and digital real-time monitoring mechanism of children in need of care and protection.
    • The portal has two functions- COVID care and CiSS. COVID Care link caters to the children who have lost either or both parents due to COVID-19 or otherwise post March 2020.
It follows six stages framework for the rehabilitation of children.
    1. Collection of the child’s details
    2. Social Investigating Report (SIR)
    3. Formulating an Individual Care Plan (ICP) for the child.
    4. Order of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) based on the SIR submitted to the CWC.
    5. Allocating the schemes and benefits that the beneficiary can avail of.
    6. A checklist is made for the evaluation of the progress i.e. (Follow Ups).

This portal, developed by, NCPCR is a first-of-its-kind initiative in India to help children in street situations.

    • The CiSS application is used for receiving data of children in street situations from all the states and union territories, tracking their rescue and rehabilitation process. The initiative is taken under the direction of the Supreme Court of India.
Key Points:

» The Standard Operating Procedure for Care and Protection of Children in Street Situations 2.0 categorizes any child under ‘Children in Street Situation’ if the child is living on the streets alone, living on the streets during the day, or living on the streets with the family.

» The program embodies Article 51 (A) of the Constitution of India, as it provides a platform to the public and organizations catering to the welfare of the children to report any child in need of assistance. The platform serves to collect data and report to the District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) for them to take necessary action.

» It also provides a platform for professionals and organizations to provide any help that they can to children in need.

» Help can be provided in the form of open shelters, counselling services, medical services, sponsorships, de-addiction services, education services, legal/paralegal services, volunteering, student volunteering, identification of hotspot, identification of CiSS, or any other assistance.

India’s First Funding Show Horses Stable launched premiere edition of Junior Category

⇒ Following the resounding success of the first three seasons, Horses Stable, a show that taps into the hidden potential of brilliant entrepreneurial talents from India, launched ‘junior season’ of the show in association with Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog.

Focus:

The ‘Horses Stable-Junior’ focuses on nurturing the young entrepreneurs and empowers the budding start-ups to pitch their innovative ideas and seek guidance and grants for their future business ventures from an experienced panel of horses.

About ‘Horses Stable’:
    • Horses Stable, an unscripted and non-fiction show is created, and conceptualised by Group CEO of Horses Productions Private Limited-production house of the show Horses Stable Prashant Agarwal, under the mentorship of entrepreneur and star-actor Suniel Shetty.
    • This flagship series is supported by Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog’s flagship initiative to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the country.
    • With the launch of its Junior season, Horses Stable, deemed as India’s largest business funding show, is promoting the culture of starting young on the entrepreneurial journey and providing a robust platform to hone their business ideas.

NETRA (New e-Tracking and Remote Administration)’ Portal and Mobile App

⇒ Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Smt Nirmala Sitharaman launched the Iconic Day celebrations of the Department of Economic Affairs with Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) 08 June 2022.

» During the event, the Finance Minister launched ‘NETRA (New e-Tracking and Remote Administration)’ Portal and Mobile Application for Indian Development and Economic Assistance Scheme (IDEAS).
    • Under the IDEAS, Government of India extends concessional finance to low and middle-income countries through the EXIM Bank of India aimed at sharing India’s development experience by way of infrastructure development, capacity building, trade and skill transfer.
    • Till date, India has offered concessional financing aggregating $34.56 billion to 66 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Oceania and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region.
    • The scheme has recently been revamped with enhanced focus on infrastructure creation, asset quality and speed of delivery of projects.

» The Finance Minister also launched DEA’s three short films on Externally Aided Projects, financial literacy and lines of credit to other countries by the Government.

Visit of Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran to India

⇒ At the invitation of the External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Hossein Amir Abdollahian paid an official visit to India from 08-10 June 2022.

    • This was the first visit of Dr. Hossein Amir Abdollahian to India since assuming the office in August 2021.

» Hossein Amirabdollahian, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

    • The two leaders discussed ongoing bilateral cooperation initiatives.  Prime Minister stressed that both countries should work to accelerate exchanges in the post-COVID era.

» Dr Amir-Abdollahian held talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.

Discussion:
    • During the delegation level talks, the two Ministers discussed the entire gamut of bilateral relations including political, cultural and people to people ties.
    • Both sides acknowledged the significance of bilateral cooperation in the field of regional connectivity and reviewed the progress made at the Shahid Beheshti terminal, Chabahar port.
    • They reaffirmed their commitment to continue to cooperate on the development of Chabahar Port. Teams from both countries will be meeting soon to address operational aspects.
    • The Ministers also discussed international and regional issues, including Afghanistan and the sides reaffirmed the importance of providing immediate humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan.
    • The Iranian Foreign Minister briefed EAM on the current situation pertaining to the JCPOA. The two Ministers also exchanged views on the Ukraine conflict and its repurcussions.

Important Day

World Oceans Day 2022

⇒ World Oceans Day is observed every year on 8 June.

The purpose of the Day is to inform the public of the impact of human actions on the ocean, develop a worldwide movement of citizens for the ocean, and mobilize and unite the world’s population on a project for the sustainable management of the world’s oceans.

Theme:

The theme for World Oceans Day 2022 was “Revitalization: collective action for the ocean”.

» UNESCO has also launched the #GenOcean Campaign, as part of the UN Ocean Decade 2021-2030, to make it easy for citizens from all walks of life to use knowledge and science to act for the ocean we need.

Background:
    • By its resolution 63/111 of 5 December 2008, the United Nations General Assembly decided that, as from 2009, 8 June would be designated by the United Nations as “World Oceans Day”.
    • The concept of a World Oceans Day was first proposed in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
Significance:
    • World Oceans Day reminds every one of the major roles the oceans have in everyday life. They are the lungs of our Planet and a major source of food and medicine and a critical part of the biosphere.
    • The oceans are essential to food security and the health and survival of all life, power our climate and are a critical part of the biosphere.
    • The World Oceans Day is an opportunity to raise global awareness of the current challenges faced by the international community in connection with the oceans.
