68th Annual General Body Meeting of IIPA

⇒ The Vice President, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar who is also the President of Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), was attended its 68th Annual General Body Meeting in New Delhi on 31 October 2022.

The Vice President called upon civil servants to take the lead in making India a developed nation during the ‘Amrit Kaal’ over the next 25 years.

Various Awards presented during the event:
Paul H. Appleby Award 2022:

» Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, conferred “Paul H. Appleby Award 2022” for Distinguished Services to IIPA and to the field of Public Administration:

Shri V. Balasubramanian, IAS (Retd.), Dr. Arun Kumar Rath, IAS (Retd.) and Prof. (Dr.) D. Ravindra Prasad.

Dr. Rajendra Prasad Award:

Dr. Rajendra Prasad Award for Academic Excellence for 2022 was given to Prof. Ramesh K. Arora, former Professor of Public Administration.

Shri T.N. Chaturvedi Award for the best Article in IJPA for the year 2021:
    1. Dr. Shamim Noor, Assistant Professor, Public Administration, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Chittagong, Bangladesh, and
    2. Dr. Saharin Priya Shaoun, a student of Department of Public Administration, University of Chittagong, Bangladesh

» Dr. U.C. Agarwal Memorial Certificate of Appreciation for the most number of Articles written by an IIPA employee for the year 2021-22 was bagged by Dr. Neetu Jain and Dr. Shyamli Singh

Award to IIPA Regional and Local Branches for best performance
    1. Karnataka Regional Branch – First Prize carrying a Certificate and cash award of Rs 10,000/-.
    2. Tamil Nadu Regional Branch – Second Prize carrying Certificate of Appreciation.
    3. Jammu & Kashmir Regional Branch –Third Prize carrying Certificate of Appreciation.

Maharashtra’s first Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC)

⇒ As part of its objective to strengthen the electronics manufacturing ecosystem in India, the Ministry of Electronics and IT has approved the greenfield Electronics Manufacturing Cluster with the project cost of Rs 492.85 crores to be set up in Ranjangaon Phase III, near Pune in Maharashtra.

Key Points:
    • The approval for the EMC was given to Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and the State government’s State Industrial Agency.
    • Maharashtra’s first Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) will attract Rs 2000 Crore investment, generate 5000 job opportunities.

» The Minister also announced that the Ministry of Electronics and IT plans to give a boost to the 1000 Crore Semicon India Future Design programme to support Semiconductor Design Startups in the state.

Election Commission of India organizes International Conference

⇒ Chief Election Commissioner of India Shri Rajiv Kumar along with Election Commissioner Shri Anup Chandra Pandey on 31 October 2022 inaugurated a two-day international conference on the theme ‘Role, Framework & Capacity of Election Management Bodies’.

Organized by:

The conference was organized by Election Commission of India at New Delhi under Cohort on Election Integrity led by ECI, which was established as a follow on to the ‘Summit for Democracy’ held in December, 2021.

» The latest edition of ECI magazine “Voice International” on the theme ‘Collaboration & Partnerships for Voter Education & Awareness’ showcasing best initiatives of EMBs was unveiled on the occasion.

International Open Access Week 2022

⇒ International Open Access Week is celebrated worldwide to create awareness about the open access scholarly publishing among researchers and publishers. It is celebrated globally during the last full week of October.

International Open Access Week 2022:

International Open Access Week 2022 was organised from 24-30 October. In the year 2022, The International Open Access Week, entered in its fifteenth year of celebration.

Theme:

The theme for International Open Access Week 2022 was ‘Open for Climate Justice’.

This year’s theme seeks to encourage connection and collaboration among the climate movement and the international open community. Sharing knowledge is a human right, and tackling the climate crisis requires the rapid exchange of knowledge across geographic, economic, and disciplinary boundaries.

Celebration in India:

Council Of Scientific And Industrial Research–National Institute Of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR–NIScPR) is the one of largest Open Access publishers of India which publishes 15 Diamond Open Access scholarly journals.

To celebrate the “International Open Access Week”, a lecture was organized entitled “Non-commercial open access journals: How to sell Diamonds in the rush for (fool’s) Gold”. The lecture was delivered by Open Access advocate and information science expert Mr M Madhan on 31 October 2022 at CSIR-NIScPR, Pusa Campus.

    • He highlighted the need of Open Access scholarly publishing and discussed the challenges of such publishing model. The international status on the diamond open access publishing was also discussed in detail.
About International Open Access Week:
    • International Open Access Week was established by Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC) and partners in the student community in 2008.
    • SPARC is a non-profit advocacy organization that supports systems for research and education that are open by default and equitable by design.
    • Open Access Week is an invaluable chance to connect the global momentum toward the open sharing of knowledge with the advancement of policy changes and the importance of social issues affecting people around the world.
    • The event is celebrated by individuals, institutions, and organizations around the world, and its organization is led by a global advisory committee.
