Major releases during the inaugural session of the Iconic Week of Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA)

⇒ Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Smt Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated Iconic Week of Ministry of Corporate Affairs during Iconic Week of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav as a part of the mega celebration of Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Corporate Affairs in New Delhi on 07 June 2022.

Key Points:
    • The event was an amalgam of various Industry Experts, Consumer & Investor Voices, Regulatory Experts, Professionals, Corporate Citizens, Investors and Other Stakeholders.
    • Various technical sessions were organized by IEPF Authority, Competition Commission of India, Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India, Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs, and the Professional Institutes viz ICSI, ICAI, ICoAI, to add to the celebration.
    • The Ministry of Corporate Affairs has organised more than 360 programmes on different themes under this Mahotsav in the past one year including Ideas @75, Resolve @75, Actions @ 75, Achievements @ 75; commemorating the freedom struggle. These programmes involved the participation of all key stakeholders and promoted the spirit of Jan Bhagidari.
During the inaugural session, the Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs as the Chief Guest unveiled eight major releases, viz:
  1. Release of Short Film “Journey of Corporate Governance in India: A Panorama”– majorly include evolution of Corporate Governance in India
  2. Release of Film on Investors Oath:
    • The film on oath was released and oath was administered in 75 unique locations throughout India, wherein present and prospective investors from all over the country came together in physical and virtual mode to take oath with under the aegis of IEPFA to become informed and empowered investor.

3. Release of Commemorative Postal Stamp on Investor Awareness:

    • A unique postal stamp carrying the message of inclusive financial literacy & investor awareness with the mandate of Investor Education & Protection Fund Authority.

4. Launch of Special Window Facility (for senior citizens of 75 years age and above):

    • The film shows the unique initiative of IEPFA for Senior Citizens of 75 years age and above.

5. Launch of National CSR Exchange Portal:

    • A digital initiative on CSR which will enable stakeholders to list, search, interact, engage and manage their CSR projects on a voluntary basis. The portal is a testimony to the idea of “Technology empowers the less empowered”.

6. Release of Publication on IBC –Insolvency Now & Beyond-for the benefit of stakeholders of IBC ecosystem in India.

    • The publication is a compilation covering UK experiences and best practices on the emerging areas/ issues under the Insolvency ecosystem in India.

7. Presentation of awards to winners of National Online Quiz on IBC, 2016:

    • IBBI in collaboration with MyGov.in and BSE Investors’ Protection Fund, IBBI has conducted the ‘3rd National Online Quiz on Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016’, to promote awareness and understanding of the Code among various stakeholders across the country. The Quiz received participation of more than 71,000 participants.

8. Release of E-Book A Compendium on CSR Compendium:

    • For the benefit of stakeholders and ease of accessing the information, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs compiled all the existing knowledge resources on CSR into a single source, and proposed to release as an e-book “Compendium on CSR”.

2nd edition of District Skill Development Planning Awards

⇒ The 2nd edition of ‘Awards for Excellence in District Skill Development Planning’ (DSDP) were organized at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi on 09 June 2022.

» During the event, top 30 districts were awarded for their innovative best practices in skill development in the region.

    • Rajkot in Gujarat, Cachar in Assam and Satara in Maharashtra respectively were ranked top three among all participating districts.

Vice President, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu visited three nations Gabon, Senegal and Qatar

⇒ The Vice President, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu visited three nations Gabon, Senegal and Qatar from 30 May to 7 June 2022.

He was accompanied by a high-level delegation including Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar and three Members of Parliament.

    • While Shri Naidu’s visit was the first by any Vice President to all the three countries, the visit marks the first-ever high-level visit from India to Gabon and Senegal.
Shri Naidu began his tour with Gabon from 30 May to 01 June 2022.

Shri Naidu held a bilateral meeting with the Foreign Minister of Gabon, Mr. Michael Moussa Adamo and then met the President of Gabon, H.E Mr. Ali Bongo Ondimba.

He held delegation level talks with the Prime Minister of Gabon Ms. Rose Christiane Ossouka Raponda and meet other dignitaries.

During this, two MoUs were signed namely:
    1. Establishment of a Joint Commission between the Governments of India and Gabon
    2. An MoU between the diplomats’ training institutes, Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Services and Gabonese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

» Referring to the steady growth of bilateral trade between India and Gabon, which crossed US$ 1 billion in 2021-22 despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Shri Naidu called for exploring the possibilities of diversifying our trade basket, particularly in the sectors of health and pharmaceuticals, energy, agriculture, Rice, defence, security, etc.

» Shri Naidu congratulated Gabon for getting elected as a non-permanent member of UN Security Council for the term 2022-23.

» The Vice President also addressed the business community at the India-Gabon Business event in Libreville, Gabon.

Visiting Senegal from 1-3 June, Shri Naidu held delegation level talks with President of Senegal Mr. Macky Sall, met the President of the National Assembly Mr. Moustapha Niasse, and other dignitaries.
    • India and Senegal this year celebrated the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
During these talks, three MoUs were signed by both sides to further deepen their bilateral partnership in various areas.
    1. The first MoU pertains to visa-free regime for Diplomatic and Official passport holders which would strengthen cooperation between the two countries through seamless travel of officials/diplomats.
    2. Second agreement relates to renewal of Cultural Exchange Progarmme (CEP) for the period 2022-26.
    3. Third MoU seeks to enhance bilateral cooperation in youth matters. This MoU will be mutually beneficial for both countries through sharing of information, knowledge and good practices, and youth exchanges.

» Reiterating that India is committed to being a reliable partner of Senegal in its march towards development, Shri Naidu announced that Phase II of the upgradation of Entrepreneurial Training & Development Centre (CEDT) at Dakar was approved and its implementation would commence soon.

    • CEDT was set up in Dakar in 2002 under Indian grant assistance and every year around 1000 youth, though mainly from Senegal, but many also from 19 other African countries, get trained in six different disciplines at the Centre.
The last leg of the tour was the visit to Qatar from 4-7 June 2022. Shri Naidu is the first ever Vice President of India to visit the State of Qatar.

During the visit, Shri Naidu held delegation-level talks with Qatar’s Deputy Amir, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Thani, and review bilateral cooperation. He also met several other Qatari dignitaries during this visit.

» The Vice President of India also addressed an India-Qatar Business Forum jointly organized by FICCI, CII and ASSOCHAM, along with Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

    • On this occasion, the Vice President launched the “India-Qatar Start Up bridge” that aims to link the start-up ecosystems of the two countries.

» Both sides expressed strong commitment to further enhance bilateral trade and investment cooperation.

» They agreed that high level engagement should be sustained, including through an early visit of Qatar’s Amir to India.

» Both sides also looked forward to the convening of the Joint Commission between the two sides at Foreign Minister level later this year. Both sides also agreed to promote bilateral parliamentary exchanges.

» ANI and Qatar News Agency have also agreed to enhance bilateral media cooperation.
