⇒ Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan assumed charge as Chief of Personnel Indian Navy on 06 October 2023.

About K Swaminathan:
    • The Flag Officer was Commissioned into the Indian Navy on 01 July 1987 and is a specialist in Communication and Electronic Warfare.
    • Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan is a recipient of the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and the Vishisht Seva Medal.

REC launches a mobile app ‘SUGAM REC’

⇒ In October 2023, REC Limited, the Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, has launched a mobile application, exclusively for current and future investors in REC’s 54EC Capital Gain Tax Exemption Bonds.

    • Named ‘SUGAM REC’, the mobile app offers investors with complete details of their investment in REC 54EC Bonds.
About Section 54EC Bonds:
    • Section 54EC Bonds are a type of fixed income financial instruments which provide tax exemption under capital gains to investors, under Section 54EC of the Income Tax Act.
About REC Limited:
    • REC Limited is an NBFC focusing on Power Sector Financing and Development across India. Established in 1969, REC Limited has completed over fifty years of operations.
    • It provides financial assistance to state electricity boards, state governments, central/state power utilities, independent power producers, rural electric cooperatives and private sector utilities.

Aadi Mahotsav - the National Tribal Festival - at Jamshedpur

⇒ Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Shri Arjun Munda inaugurated the Aadi Mahotsav – the National Tribal Festival – at Jamshedpur, Jharkhand on 07 October 2023.

    • The mega event was organized by the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited (TRIFED), Ministry of Tribal Affairs, from 7th – 16th October 2023.
Key Points:
    • Aadi Mahotsav, an annual celebration of tribal entrepreneurship, craft, culture, cuisine, and commerce, serves as a vital platform to display the rich and diverse heritage of tribes from across the nation.
    • The festival highlighted the talents of 336 tribal artisans and artists, including Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) and Van Dhan Vikas Kendra (VDVK) beneficiaries.
    • This event featured 30 artisans’ stalls, around 11 VDVKs’ stalls and 5 cuisine stalls from Jharkhand.

IREDA Pavilion at 'AtoZero (Accelerate to Net Zero) ASEAN Summit'

⇒ Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof inaugurated Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd (IREDA) pavilion on October 5, 2023, at the AtoZero (Accelerate to Net Zero) ASEAN Summit.

» The AtoZero (Accelerate to Net Zero) ASEAN Summit was organized from 4th to 6th October 2023 at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Key Points:
    • The IREDA pavilion showcased the company’s achievements, expertise, and contributions to the renewable energy sector. It served as a platform for IREDA to collaborate with international partners and showcase the country’s progress in renewable energy development.
    • It offered a unique opportunity for delegates, industry experts, and stakeholders to engage in discussions, explore collaborations, and gain insights into the future of the renewable energy sector.

Further, during the AtoZero ASEAN Summit, CMD, IREDA participated in two panel discussions:

    1. Green Energy Financing – Addressing the Fragmentations and Bridging the Gap in ASEAN
    2. Towards Hydrogen Economy: Policy Support, Value Chain Development, and Innovations Around Blue and Green Hydrogen

World Dyslexia Day 2023

⇒ World Dyslexia Day is observed on October 8th each year.

    • The Dyslexia awareness week is celebrated annually from 2nd to 8th October.

World Dyslexia Day raises awareness about these issues and what can be done to manage such a disorder. This day aims to promote inclusivity, access to education, and the implementation of effective strategies to support individuals with dyslexia in their learning endeavors.

Theme:

The theme for Dyslexia Awareness Day 2023 was ‘Uniquely You’.

    • This theme aims to celebrate the diversity of people within the dyslexic community.
About Dyslexia:
    • Dyslexia is a common learning disorder that affects a person’s ability to read and write properly.
    • Skills taken granted for such as reading and writing fluently, is an area of challenge for those who have dyslexia.
    • Persons with Dyslexia are often unable to read quickly and write without committing errors.
    • Persons with Dyslexia might struggle with reading, writing, vocabulary, and tasks that require hand-eye coordination.
