Various developmental projects in Karnataka

⇒ Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi visited Karnataka and Maharashtra on 19th January, 2023.

The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone and dedicated various developmental projects related to irrigation, drinking water and a National Highway development project in Kodekal, Yadgir, Karnataka on 19 January 2023.

Various developmental projects:

Yadgir multi-village drinking water supply scheme:

    • PM laid the foundation stone of the Yadgir multi-village drinking water supply scheme under the Jal Jeevan Mission was laid at Kodekal, Yadgir district.
    • A Water Treatment Plant of 117 MLD will be built under the scheme.
    • The project, which costs more than Rs 2050 crore, will provide potable water to about 2.3 lakh households of more than 700 rural habitations and three towns in the Yadgir district.

Narayanpur Left Bank Canal – Extension Renovation and Modernisation Project:

    • Prime Minister also inaugurated the Narayanpur Left Bank Canal – Extension Renovation and Modernisation Project (NLBC – ERM).
    • The project with a canal carrying capacity of 10,000 cusecs can irrigate 4.5 lac hectares of command area.
    • It will benefit more than three lakh farmers in 560 villages of Kalaburgi, Yadagir and Vijaypur districts.
    • The total cost of the project is about Rs 4700 crores.

65.5 km section of NH-150C:

    • He also laid the foundation stone of the 65.5 km section (from Badadal to Maradagi S Andola) of Surat – Chennai Expressway NH-150C.
    • This 6-lane Greenfield Road project is part of the Surat – Chennai Expressway.
    • It is being built at the cost of about Rs 2000 crore.
    • Surat – Chennai Expressway will pass through six states- Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. It will reduce the existing route from 1600 Kms to 1270 Kms.

PM distributes title deeds to eligible beneficiaries in Karnataka

⇒ The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi distributed title deeds (hakku patra) to the eligible beneficiaries (about fifty thousand) of newly declared revenue villages in Kalaburagi, Karnataka on 19 January 2023.

Background:
    • In line with the Prime Minister’s vision of 100 percent saturation of government schemes, about 1475 unrecorded habitations have been declared as New Revenue villages in five districts of Kalaburagi, Yadgiri, Raichur, Bidar and Vijayapura.
    • At Malkhed village of Sedam Taluka of Kalaburagi district, the Prime Minister distributed title deeds (hakku patra) to the eligible beneficiaries of these newly declared revenue villages.
    • The issuance of title deeds to more than fifty thousand beneficiaries, who are largely from the marginalised and vulnerable communities from the SC, ST and OBC, is a step to provide formal recognition from the government for their land. This will make them eligible for receiving government services like drinking water, electricity, roads etc.

Itech India International Technology Law Conference 2023

⇒ The Minister of State for Electronics & Information Technology and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar delivered the keynote address at the Itech International India Conference, in Bengaluru on 19 January 2023.

The 2023 International India Conference was held on 18-20 January 2023 in Bengaluru, India.

The Itech India International Technology Law Conference was organized by the International Technology Law Association.

    • ITechLaw organised the conference which focused on broad spectrum of expertise in the technology law field.

The law meet is an annual event that brings together lawyers from across the world to discuss pressing issues in the domain of technology policy and is considered among the foremost conferences in the field.

» The Minister spoke on “the Vision of Digital India” at the conference.

The minister said while addressing the Itech Law International Conference 2023-

    • The Government is working on a comprehensive legal framework that will include legislations like the proposed Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, the National Data Governance Framework, the amended IT rules etc and the upcoming Digital India Act; which will be less prescriptive and more principle-based-to enable and support a vibrant startup and innovation ecosystem.
    • The Government will put in place a less prescriptive and more principle-based comprehensive legal framework for catalyzing India’s Techade and to build a trillion-dollar economy.
    • The Minister then visited the NXP office in Bengaluru and met their leadership. The Minister also met the Global Capability Center heads to discuss the growth of the semiconductor and electronics sectors.

International

11th Annual Joint Military Training (JMT) between lAF and RSAF

⇒ The 11th edition of the annual Joint Military Training (JMT) between the Indian Air Force (lAF) and the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) commenced at Air Force Station, Kalaikunda on 03 November 2022.

Both the air forces had resumed this training after a gap of two years due to COVID. This edition of JMT was conducted over a period of six weeks.

Key Points:
    • The bilateral phase of the exercise was conducted from 09 to 18 November 2022.
    • During the bilateral phase of the exercise, two Air Forces were engaged in advanced air combat simulations.
    • RSAF participated in JMT-2022 with F-16 aircraft, while the IAF fielded the Su-30 MKI, Jaguar, MiG-29 and LCA Tejas aircraft.
    • The exercise underscores the strong and longstanding relationship between India and Singapore in the domain of defence cooperation.

INDO - US Joint Training Exercise “YUDH ABHYAS 2022”

⇒ The 18th edition of Indo – US joint training exercise “YUDH ABHYAS 22” was conducted in Auli, Uttarakhand in November 2022.

    • Exercise Yudh Abhyas is conducted annually between India and USA with the aim of exchanging best practices, Tactics, Techniques and Procedures between the Armies of the two nations.
    • The previous edition of the exercise was conducted at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson, Alaska (USA) in October 2021.
Participation:

US Army soldiers of 2nd Brigade of the 11th Airborne Division and Indian Army soldiers from the ASSAM Regiment participated in the exercise.

Focus:

The training was focused on employment of an integrated battle group under Chapter VII of the UN Mandate. It included all operations related to peace keeping & peace enforcement.

    • The joint exercise also focused on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations. Troops from both nations practiced launching of swift & coordinated relief efforts in the wake of any natural calamity.
Key Points:
    • The scope of the Field Training Exercise included validation of integrated battle groups, force multipliers, establishment and functioning of surveillance grids, validation of operational logistics, mountain warfare skills, casualty evacuation and combat medical aid in adverse terrain and climatic conditions.
    • The exercise involved exchanges and practices on a wide spectrum of combat skills including combat engineering, employment of UAS/Counter UAS techniques and information operations.
    • The exercise facilitated both Armies to share their wide experiences, skills and enhance their techniques through information exchange.
