Appointment of Chief Election Commissioner

  • A 1980-batch IRS officer, Sushil Chandra has been appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), on 12 April 2021. He assumed the charge on April 13, 2021. He would relinquish office on May 14, 2022.

International Ranger Award 2021

  • Ramanathapuram Forest Range Officer S. Sathish was awarded ‘International Ranger Award 2021’ for his works at Gulf of Mannar Marine National Park. Mahendira Giri, Forest Ranger from Rajaji Tiger Reserve, Uttarakhand, also received this award.
10 best performing forest rangers across the world has been awarded jointly by the following organizations:
    • International Union for Conservation of Nature, Switzerland
    • World Commission on Protected Areas
    • International Ranger Federation
    • Global Wildlife Conservation and Conservation Allies

The award ceremony was held through an online platform on April 7.

The other eight forest rangers were selected from 8 other countries:

Cambodia, Myanmar, Russia, Georgia, Zambia, Madagascar, Cote d’ivorie and Colombia

Resignation of Chairperson of Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival

  • On 12 April 2021, Actor Deepika Padukone announced she has resigned as the chairperson of Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival.

International

Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France visited to India

  • H.E. Mr. Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, visited to India from April 13-15, 2021.

The three-day visit was to boost cooperation in a range of key areas, including in the Indo-Pacific region.

External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, hosted the visiting Foreign Minister for bilateral talks. The bilateral talks paved the way for further strengthening of the bilateral partnership across the trade, defence, climate, migration and mobility, education and health sectors in the post-COVID-19 context.

They explored ways to strengthen cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, including the India-France-Australia Trilateral mechanism, addressing emerging challenges in the maritime and space domains and working together in the area of climate action and biodiversity protection.

Mr Le Drian participated along with the Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Prakash Javadekar at a panel discussion on Climate Change in Delhi. He was also participated in the Raisina Dialogue.

Hideki Matsuyama won the Masters

  • Hideki Matsuyama won the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club on 11 April 2021. He became the first player from Japan to claim a men’s major championship.

World Homeopathy Day

  • The World Homeopathy Day is celebrated every year on April 10, to pay tribute to homoeopathy and its contribution to the world of medicine.
History:

World Homeopathy Day is observed on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the founder of homoeopathy, German physician Dr Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann.

Two-day conference on World Homoeopathy Day:

On the occasion of World Homoeopathy Day, Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) under Ministry of AYUSH organized a conference on the theme of “Homoeopathy – Roadmap for Integrative Medicine” on 10-11 April 2021, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

Objective:

The objective for this conference was to exchange of experience by policy makers and experts to identify strategic actions towards an effective and efficient inclusion of Homoeopathy in integrative care.

E-library of CCRH:

During the inauguration, CCRH launched a database, Homoeopathic Clinical Case Repository. It aims at compiling cases treated through Homoeopathy from practitioners across the country, to build up evidence base towards Homoeopathy. E-library of CCRH was also launched on the occasion.

Death

Former BJP MLA, Pascal Dhanare

  • Former BJP MLA Pascal Dhanare died in Mumbai on 12 April 2021. He was 49. He was an MLA from Dahanu in Palghar district of Maharashtra from 2014 to 2019.
