National

National Award for Innovations and Good Practices in Educational Administration (2020-21 & 2021-22)

⇒ Union Minister for Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, conferred the National Award for Innovations and Good Practices in Educational Administration for 2020-21 & 2021-22 at a function held in New Delhi on 05 December 2023.

    • National Award were given to 65 outstanding district and block education officers from across the country.
About National Award:
    • National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) has instituted the National Award for Innovations & Good Practices in Educational Administration for district- and block-level education officers.
    • The scheme was launched in 2014 to encourage innovations and good practices in educational administration at the grass-root level for improving the functioning of the public system of education.
    • The overall aim is to create a culture and ecosystem of innovations and good practices in educational administration at the field level of educational administration.
    • Objectives of the awards also include documenting and disseminating innovations and good practices in educational administration at district and block levels.
    • Selected officers are presented award/ certificate of appreciation in the national award presentation function conceding with a two-day national conference on innovations and good practices in educational administration, organised by NIEPA in New Delhi.
    • The candidates are invited to participate and present their innovations at the conference.

3rd India Internet Governance Forum 2023 (IIGF-2023)

⇒ India Internet Governance Forum 2023 (IIGF 2023) was a hybrid event, convened on 5th December 2023.

    • India Internet Governance Forum 2023 was the third edition, after the first two editions of IIGF were successfully organized in 2021 and 2022.
    • Union Minister of State for Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar addressed the India Internet Governance Forum 2023.
Theme:

The India Internet Governance Forum 2023 (IIGF-2023) was conducted under the overarching theme “Moving Forward – Calibrating Bharat’s Digital Agenda”.

Discussion:

The sub-themes discussed during the event were – Building a secure, Trusted & resilient cyberspace for Bharat, Enabling Innovation for India’s Developmental Goals, Bridging Divides and Calibrating Bharat’s Digital Agenda – on Leadership for Global Digital Governance & Cooperation.

About IIGF:
    • The India Internet Governance Forum is an initiative associated with the UN Internet Governance Forum (UN IGF).
    • The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) is a multi-stakeholder platform bringing representatives together from various groups, all at par to discuss public policy issues related to the Internet.
    • The IGF facilitates a common understanding of how to maximise Internet opportunities and address risks and challenges that may arise.
    • The Indian chapter of the United Nations IGF, called India IGF or IIGF, was created in 2021.
    • It is supported by a 14-member multi-stakeholder Committee(s) representing Government, Civil Society, Industries, Technical community, Think Tanks, Industry Associations, etc.

Geographic Information System application “Gram Manchitra”

⇒ In order to encourage the Spatial Planning by the Gram Panchayat, Ministry of Panchayati Raj had launched the Geographic Information System (GIS) application “Gram Manchitra”.

    • This application facilitates and supports Gram Panchayats to perform planning at Gram Panchayat level using geo-spatial technology.
    • It provides a single/ unified Geo Spatial platform to better visualize the various developmental works to be taken up across the different sectors and provide a decision support system for Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP).
Further, Ministry has launched mActionSoft, a mobile based solution to help in capturing photos with Geo-Tags (i.e. GPS Coordinates) for the works which have asset as an output.
    • Geo-tagging of the assets is done in all three stages viz. (i) before start of the work, (ii) during the work and (iii) on completion of work.
    • This would provide a repository of information on all works and assets related to natural resource management, water harvesting, drought proofing, sanitation, agriculture, check dams and irrigation channels etc.

» Assets geo-tagged using the m-ActionSoft application is available on Gram Manchitra, enhancing the visualization of various developmental works in the Gram Panchayats.

» Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj, Shri Kapil Moreshwar Patil said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on 05 December 2023.

Lakshmipat Singhania – IIM Lucknow National Leadership Awards

⇒ The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu presented the Lakshmipat Singhania – IIM Lucknow National Leadership Awards in New Delhi on December 7, 2023.

About Award:
    • Shri Lakshmipat Singhania was a visionary, a pioneer, an entrepreneur, a philanthropist and a leader of outstanding qualities.
    • The award in the three fields of Business, Science & Technology, Community Service & Social Upliftment; comprises a Trophy and a Citation.
    • They are given every year by an eminent personality.
    • The awards in the Leaders category honour individuals, exemplary leaders int their respective fields, who have exhibited exceptional leadership through pursuit of excellence.

ESIC wins ISSA Vision Zero 2023 Award at the 23rd World Congress on Safety and Health at Work in Sydney

⇒ The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) bagged the “ISSA Vision Zero 2023” Award in the 23rd World Congress on Safety and Health at Work in Sydney, Australia.

    • The 23rd World Congress took place on 27 – 30 November 2023.
Key Points:
    • “Vision Zero” is a transformational approach for prevention of accidents at work places integrating the three dimensions of safety, health and well-being at all levels of work.
    • ESIC was awarded with “ISSA Vision Zero 2023” as it had great success in outreach in the field of safety and health at work places by aligning the prevention strategy besides post-accidental mechanism for medical care and cash benefits to the workers and their dependents.
    • The award also underlines the improvements that have been made in the service delivery of the ESI Corporation as well as increase in its administrative and operational efficiency using IT enabled initiatives.
International Social Security Association (ISSA):
    • The International Social Security Association (ISSA) is the principal international institution bringing together social security agencies and organizations of the world.
    • Founded in 1927, the ISSA has its headquarters at the International Labour Office in Geneva.
    • The ISSA’s aim is to promote dynamic social security as the social dimension in a globalizing world by supporting excellence in social security administration.
