Government launched first of its kind 6- month Community Based Inclusive Development (CBID) Program
⇒ Union Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment Dr Thaawarchand Gehlot virtually launched a 6- month Community Based Inclusive Development (CBID) Program on rehabilitation of Divyangjan on 19 May 2021.
Booklets:
Six booklets on course curriculum were also released on the occasion.
Aim:
The objective of the program is to create a pool of grassroots rehabilitation workers at the community level who can work alongside ASHA and Anganwadi workers to handle the various disabilities related issues and help in the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the society.
The program has been designed to provide competency based knowledge and skills among these personnel to enhance their efficiency in performing their duty successfully. These workers will be called ‘Divyang Mitra’ i.e. friends of persons with disabilities.
ABOUT:
This CBID course has been co-designed by Rehabilitation Council of India and University of Melbourne as a joint initiative under the MoU signed between the Government of Australia and the Government of India on 22nd November, 2018 for cooperation in disability sector.
Acquisition of YES AMC and YES Trustee by GPL
⇒ The Competition Commission of India (CCI) approves the acquisition of YES Asset Management (India) Limited (YES AMC) and YES Trustee Limited (YES Trustee) by GPL Finance and Investments Limited (GPL) on 18 May 2021.
The proposed combination envisages acquisition of 100 percent equity shares of YES AMC and YES Trustee by GPL.
GPL is registered with the RBI as a non-deposit taking and non- systemically important Non-Banking Financial Company. YES AMC & YES Trustee belongs to the YES Bank Limited group.

SpaceX signed deal with Google for high speed Internet Service
⇒ Search engine giant, Google has won a deal to provide cloud services to Elon Musk’s SpaceX for Starlink satellite internet service.
Space Exploration Technologies Corp, SpaceX signed a deal with Google cloud to support businesses that require cloud-based applications.
Under this new deal with Google cloud, SpaceX will install ground stations within Google data centres worldwide. It will connect to the Starlink satellites & enabling fast and secure Internet services via Google Cloud.
It will help in providing fast internet service to the remote areas and support cloud commutation firms such as Microsoft and Amazon. This service is expected to be available in the second half of 2021.

Batting Coach of the Indian Women’s Team
⇒ BCCI has appointed the former India opener Shiv Sunder Das as the batting coach of the Indian women’s team for the tour of England.
Shiv Sunder Das has played 23 Tests during 2000-02. He has a decent average of near 35 with more than 1300 runs, including two hundreds and nine half centuries.

⇒ Since 1977, International Museum Day is observed on 18 May every year.
Objective:
The objective of International Museum Day, as declared by International Council of Museums, is to raise awareness about the fact that, “Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.”
Theme:
The theme for International Museum Day 2021 is ‘The Future of Museums: Recover and Reimagine’.

NGMA’s Audio-Visual Guide App:
On the occasion of International Museum Day, the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), New Delhi has launched the NGMA’s Audio-Visual Guide App.
Through the app, it will be possible for museum viewers to listen to anecdotes and stories related to the treasured Indian modern art exhibited at the Gallery, on smart phone, anywhere, anytime.
The app is an audio-visual guide for exploring the modern art treasures on display across galleries of the Museum.

Malayalam Screenwriter & Actor, Madampu Kunjukuttan
⇒ Malayalam Screenwriter & Actor, Madampu Kunjukuttan passed away on 11 May 2021 in Thrissur. He was 81.
Madampu started his career as a screenwriter in the film industry with Ashwadhamavu in 1979.
He received the National Award for best screenplay in 2000 for the film Karunam directed by Jayaraj. In 2003, he also received the award for the best screenplay for the film Parinamam at the Ashdod international film festival in Israel.

⇒ Eminent journalist and popular TV anchor Anjan Bandyopadhyay died in Kolkata on 16 May 2021.
56 years old, Anjan Bandyopadhyay was the editor of Bengali news channel Zee 24 Ghanta.
