Ayush Health Services and Research Facility at Goa

⇒ The Ministry of Ayush has established Ayush health services for health care & Ayush research facilities at Ribandar in Goa.

It was inaugurated on 14 July 2023 by Chief Minister of Goa Dr. Pramod Sawant, and Union Minister of Ayush & Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Tourism Shri Shripad Yesso Naik.

Aim:

The facility aims to provide high-quality and affordable Ayush healthcare services to local community and also promote research in traditional medicine by developing a museum, library and a laboratory dedicated to conducting research on medicines of mineral and marine origin.

This joint health-care and research facility has been established by Research Councils under the Union Ministry of Ayush namely-

Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences – Regional Ayurveda Research institute for Mineral and Marine Medicinal Resources, Central Council for Research in Homeopathy – Clinical Research Unit (Homeopathy), Central Council for Research in Siddha – Siddha Clinical Research Unit, Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy -Clinical Research Unit & Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine – Unani Speciality.

Key Points:
    • Ayush Health Services for health care & research facilities includes CCRAS – Regional Ayurveda Research Institute for Mineral and Marine Medicinal Resources, CCRH – Clinical Research Unit (Homeopathy), CCRS – Siddha Clinical Research Unit, CCRYN – Clinical Research Unit & CCRUM – Unani Speciality clinic.
    • Provision has been made for OPD, dispensary, panchakarma and laboratory for conducting research focusing on the medicines of Mineral and Marine origin.
    • The Institutes will work to provide high quality and affordable healthcare to every region of the state through Ayush systems of medicine.
    • The vision is expansion of infrastructure and human resources, promotion of research in the traditional medical systems through effective collaborations with reputed like-minded organizations.
    • It will also work towards mainstreaming and integration of Ayush services with modern medicines and encourage innovations.

International

India hosts ASEAN Countries Conference on Traditional Medicines

⇒ The Ministry of Ayush with support from the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian Mission to ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat hosted the Conference on Traditional Medicines for ASEAN Countries on 20th July 2023.

    • The Conference, held again after almost a decade, promised to consolidate sustainable and resilient healthcare systems to achieve Sustainable Development Goals and Universal Health Coverage.
Aim:

The aim of the Conference on Traditional Medicines was to strengthen the platform between India and ASEAN Countries to share their best practices and draw a roadmap for future cooperation in the field of Traditional Medicines.

Participation:

A total of 75 participants – International delegates from 8 ASEAN countries and 2 International delegates participated through virtual mode and brainstormed and shared their ideas on Traditional Medicines during this one-day conference held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

Sessions:
    • The Conference was divided into sessions with experts of Traditional Medicine from India and ASEAN shared about the research they have done and other initiatives taken in protecting people from Covid.
    • The second session dealt with knowledge sharing on regulatory frameworks, quality control measures, and integration of traditional medicine into healthcare systems.

The Conference was graced by Union Minister of Ayush and Ports, Shipping & Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal and MoS for Ayush and WCD Dr. Munjpara Mahendrabhai Kalubhai as Guest of Honour.

    • In his presidential address, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal said that the Conference on Traditional Medicine between India and ASEAN countries provides a platform to deliberate on various dimensions of Traditional systems of Medicine for attaining Sustainable Development Goals and strategizing on modalities for advancing Traditional Medicine Systems.
    • The Minister also informed, “Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi at the 12th ASEAN India Summit at Myanmar in November 2014 enunciated ‘Act East Policy’, giving a new momentum to the strategic partnership. The Act-East Policy emphasises Connectivity, Commerce and Culture.”

2023 Men's Asian Champions Trophy

⇒ The Men’s Asian Champions Trophy 2023 hockey tournament was held at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in Chennai, India from August 3 to August 12, 2023.

    • The 2023 Asian Champions Trophy was a men’s field hockey tournament organized by the Asian Hockey Federation. It was the 7th edition of the Men’s Asian Champions Trophy.
    • Chennai previously hosted the Men’s Hockey Asia Cup in 2007.
Mascot:

The mascot of the prestigious Men’s Asian Champions Trophy 2023 hockey tournament was ‘Bomman’.

Participation:

Asia’s top-ranked six hockey teams India, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Japan and China played in the 2023 Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament.

About Trophy:

» Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports and Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Shri Anurag Thakur unveiled the coveted trophy for Hero Asian Champions Trophy, Chennai 2023 at the Major Dhyanchand National Stadium in New Delhi on 13 July 2023.

» Union Minister also launched ‘Pass the Ball Trophy Tour’ campaign on the occasion.

    • The aim of the ‘Pass the Ball Trophy Tour’ campaign was to create an electrifying atmosphere to build anticipation among hockey fans and drive support for the Indian Men’s Hockey Team.

» The Asian Champions Trophy, which was produced by acclaimed trophy designer Sanjay Sharma, was handcrafted with care from a harmonious combination of brass, aluminium, and copper that has been elegantly plated with nickel and gold.

Final match:

The final match of the Asian Champions Trophy 2023 took place between India and Malaysia on 12 August 2023 in Chennai.

Winner of Men’s Asian Champions Trophy 2023:
    • The Indian men’s hockey team won the Asian Champions Trophy 2023 tournament and won a record fourth title by defeating Malaysia 4-3 in the final.
    • Japan beat South Korea 5-3 for to finish third while Pakistan beat China 6-1 to finish fifth.
Awards:
    • Player of the Tournament– Mandeep Singh (India)
    • Goalkeeper of the Tournament– Kim Jae-hyeon (South Korea)
    • Leading Goalscorer– Harmanpreet Singh (India)
    • Emerging Player of the Tournament– Abdul Shahid (Pakistan)

95th Foundation and Technology Day of ICAR

⇒ Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) celebrated its 95th Foundation and Technology Day from 16th – 18th July 2023 at Dr. C. Subramanian Auditorium, NASC Complex.

    • ICAR celebrates its Foundation Day on 16th July, every year.
    • From this year it has been decided to observe it as the ‘Foundation and Technology Day’.
About ICAR:
    • ICAR, an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India is engaged in coordinating, guiding and managing research and education in agriculture including horticulture, fisheries, and animal sciences.
    • ICAR was established on 16 July 1929 and was earlier known as the Imperial Council of Agricultural Research.
    • Indian Council of Agricultural Research’s headquarters is in New Delhi.
    • 113 ICAR institutes and 74 agricultural universities spread across the country are engaged in doing cutting edge research in the areas of agricultural sciences.
