Cabinet approves naming of Greenfield Airport at Hollongi, Itanagar as “Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar”

⇒ The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the naming of Greenfield Airport at Hollongi, Itanagar as “Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar”.

The resolution was passed by the State Government of Arunachal Pradesh to name the airport as ‘Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar’. It reflects the people’s reverence of the Sun (Donyi) and the Moon (Polo) to symbolize the traditions and rich cultural heritage of the State.

Key Points:
    • Government of India granted ‘In-principle’ approval for development of Hollongi Greenfield Airport in January, 2019.
    • The project is being developed by Airports Authority of India (AAI) with the help of Central Government and the State Government of Arunachal Pradesh at a cost of Rs 646 crore.
    • Presently, two airports, viz., Tezu and Passighat are operational in Arunachal Pradesh.
    • In line with the Prime Minister’s vision of developing the North-East region as the growth engine of India, the Donyi Polo Airport will be the third operational airport for Arunachal Pradesh, taking the total airport count in the North-East region to 16. Till 2014, there were 9 operational airports in the region.

Inauguration of 3024 newly constructed EWS flats at Kalkaji, Delhi built for rehabilitating slum dwellers

⇒ The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated 3024 newly constructed EWS flats at Kalkaji, Delhi built for rehabilitating slum dwellers under the ‘In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation Project’ on 02 November 2022.

    • He also handed over keys to eligible beneficiaries at Bhoomiheen Camp in a programme at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
Background:

» In line with the vision of the Prime Minister to provide housing for all, in-situ slum rehabilitation in 376 Jhuggi Jhopri clusters is being undertaken by Delhi Development Authority (DDA).

    • The objective of the rehabilitation project is to provide a better and healthy living environment to the residents of Jhuggi Jhopri clusters, with proper amenities and facilities.

» DDA has undertaken three such projects at Kalkaji Extension, Jailorwala Bagh and Kathputli Colony.

    • Under the Kalkaji Extension Project, in-situ Slum Rehabilitation of three slum clusters namely Bhoomiheen Camp, Navjeevan camp and Jawahar camp located at Kalkaji is being taken up in a phased manner.
    • Under Phase I, 3024 EWS flats at the nearby vacant commercial centre site have been constructed.
    • The Jhuggi Jhopri site at Bhoomiheen Camp will be vacated by rehabilitating eligible households of Bhoomiheen camp to the newly constructed EWS flats.
    • Post vacation of Bhoomiheen Campsite, this vacated site will be utilised for rehabilitation of Navjeevan Camp and Jawahar Camp in Phase II.

» Phase I of the Project has been completed and 3024 flats are ready to move in.

    • These flats have been constructed at the cost of about Rs 345 crores and are equipped with all civic amenities including finishing having been done with vitrified floor tiles, ceramics tiles, Udaipur green marble counter in the kitchen, etc.

Maiden flight-test of Phase-II Ballistic Missile Defence interceptor off Odisha coast

⇒ Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted a successful maiden flight-test of Phase-II Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) interceptor AD-1 missile with large kill altitude bracket from APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha on 02 November 2022.

The flight-test was carried out with participation of all BMD weapon system elements located at different geographical locations.

During the flight-test, all the sub-systems performed as per expectations and were validated by the data captured by a number of range sensors including Radar, Telemetry and Electro Optical Tracking stations deployed to capture the flight data.

About AD-1:
    • The AD-1 is a long-range interceptor missile designed for both low exo-atmospheric and endo-atmospheric interception of long-range ballistic missiles as well as aircraft.
    • It is propelled by a two-stage solid motor and equipped with indigenously-developed advanced control system, navigation and guidance algorithm to precisely guide the vehicle to the target.

Indian Army collaborates with TATA Power to setup Electric Vehicle Charging Points

⇒ The Indian Army through it’s ‘Go-Green Initiative’ has collaborated with TATA Power, India’s largest integrated utility, to setup 16 charging stations for electric vehicles (EV) at various locations in Delhi Cantonment.

» Inauguration of charging stations was carried out on 02 November 2022 by Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, GOC Delhi Area.

    • Inaugurating the first EV charging station at Taurus Station Canteen, Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth said, “this is a unique initial step by Indian Army and TATA Power towards implementation of Government of India’s National Electric Mobility Mission Plan and Indian Army’s ‘Go-Green’ Initiative”.
Key Points:
    • All 16 charging stations setup in Delhi Cantonment can be used both for personal and official EVs in Delhi Cantonment.
    • The Indian Army is providing suitable facilities for setting up EV charging stations along with arranging upstream power infrastructure to energise the chargers.
    • The start of this collaboration between Indian Army and TATA Power will further strengthen the nation’s drive towards sustainable mobility.

Global Investors Meet ‘Invest Karnataka 2022’

⇒ The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi addressed the inaugural function of Invest Karnataka 2022, the Global Investors Meet of the state on 02 November 2022 via video conferencing.

Theme:

The theme of the Global Investors Meet ‘Invest Karnataka 2022’ was “Build for the World”.

Aim:

The aim of the meeting was to attract prospective investors and set up a development plan for the next decade.

Speakers:

» The three-day programme, held from 2nd to 4th November, 2022 in Bengaluru witnessed more than 80 speaker sessions.

    • The speakers included some of the top industry leaders such as Kumar Mangalam Birla, Sajjan Jindal and Vikram Kirloskar among others.
Sessions:
    • Along with this, a number of business exhibitions ran parallel with more than three hundred exhibitors and country sessions.
    • Country sessions were each hosted by the partner countries – France, Germany, Netherlands, South Korea, Japan, and Australia – which brought high-level ministerial and industrial delegations from their respective countries.
Key Points:
    • The Karnataka government signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) worth Rs 5.20 lakh crore during the inaugural day of the three-day Invest Karnataka 2022 – Global Investors Meet.
    • During the valedictory session, Chief Minister Basavaraj S Bommai re-assured investors from all across the world of sustained support by his government. Shri Bommai said, “investments totaling about Rs.9.82 lakh have been committed in diverse sectors in the state”.
    • The global scale of the event gave Karnataka an opportunity to showcase its culture to the world as well.
