'SCALE' App for skill development in leather sector

⇒ Minister of Education and Skill Development Shri Dharmendra Pradhan launched the ‘SCALE’ (Skill Certification Assessment for Leather Employees) app for skill development in leather sector at CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute, Chennai on 20 September 2022.

    • The App provides a one-stop solution for the skilling, learning, assessment, and employment needs of the leather industry.
Developed by:

Leather Skill Sector Council developed Android App SCALE to change the way skill development programs are designed and delivered to the trainees in leather industry.

The SCALE studio App developed by Leather SSC allows people from all age groups interested in leather craft to access online live streamed classes from the state-of-the-art studio at its office.

47th Annual Gathering and 20th Meeting of Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD)

⇒ Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shri Anurag Thakur inaugurated the 47th Annual Gathering and 20th Meeting of Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) on 20 September 2022.

Host:

India hosted the 47th Annual Gathering/ 20th AIBD General Conference and Associated Meetings 2022 in India from 19-21 September, 2022 in New Delhi.

    • Earlier, India has hosted the Governing Council Meetings (GC) in 1978, 1985, 2003.
Discussion:

The 47th AIBD Annual Gathering/20th AIBD General Conference and Associated Meetings witnessed a range of discussions, presentations and idea exchange sessions especially focusing on the topic of “Building a Stronger Future of Broadcasting in post pandemic era”.

    • A five-year plan for co-operative activities and exchange programmes was also finalised.
    • All the participating countries and member broadcasters pledged to work together for a sustainable broadcasting environment, latest technology know-how, finest content creation, various co-operative activities.
Presidency of AIBD:

India’s Presidency of the prestigious Asia-pacific Institute of Broadcasting Development (AIBD) has been extended for one more year.

    • This was unanimously decided by the AIBD member countries at the two-day General Conference of the Institute held in New Delhi.
    • Currently, Shri Mayank Kumar Agrawal, Chief Executive Officer, Prasar Bharati and Director General, Doordarshan is the President of AIBD.
During the event, Union Minister Shri Anurag Thakur presided over the award presentation for 2021 and 2022.
Appreciation Award:
    • The Appreciation Award for 2021 was conferred on Radio Television Brunei.
    • The Appreciation Award for 2022 was shared by Ministry of Economy, Civil Service, Communications, Housing and Community Development, Republic of Fiji and Fiji Broadcasting Corporation.
Lifetime Achievement Award:
    • The Lifetime Achievement Award for 2021 was given to Mr Khieu Khanharith, Minister of Information and Communication, Cambodia.
    • The Lifetime Achievement Award for 2022 was conferred on Shri Mayank Agarwal, CEO, PB and President, AIBD.
About AIBD:
    • The Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) was established in 1977 under the auspices of UNESCO.
    • It is a unique regional inter-governmental organisation servicing countries of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP) in the field of electronic media development.
    • It is hosted by the Government of Malaysia and the secretariat is located in Kuala Lumpur.
    • The AIBD currently has 26 Full Members (countries) represented by 43 organisations, and 50 Affiliate Members (organisations) with a total membership of 93 representing 46 countries and regions and over 50 partners in Asia, Pacific, Europe, Africa, Arab States and North America.
AIBD General Conference:
    • The AIBD General Conference (GC) and its Associated Meetings is the annual official gathering of the Institute.
    • The General Conference is open to member countries, affiliates, partners, observers and leading broadcasters by invitation only.
    • Member Countries, Affiliates and partners would have the opportunity to review the number of activities and projects that AIBD has implemented for the past year and also look into the future projects. Also discussed are the developmental needs of the member countries.

» Ministry of Information & Broadcasting holds the Full Membership of the AIBD. Prasar Bharati, being the public service broadcaster of India utilizes the various services of the AIBD.

Important Day

38th Raising Day of RPF

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) celebrated its 38th Raising Day on 20th September 2022 by organizing a parade for the first time at the central level at Jag Jeewan Ram RPF Academy, Lucknow.

    • This is the first time that a National Level Parade of RPF was organized outside New Delhi.
The Union Minister of State for Railways and Textiles, Smt Darshana Vikram Jardosh, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and took the salute of the Parade.

» The Minister of State for Railways presented the ‘President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service’, ‘Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service’, ‘Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak’, ‘Uttam JeevanRaksha Padak’ and ‘Jeevan Raksha Padak’ to 23 RPF personnel, including award of Sarwottam Jeewan Raksha Padak posthumously to Late Shri Gyan Chand, Head Constable RPF NCR who laid down his life at the altar of duty while saving a lady who had jumped in front of a moving train with intention to commit suicide.

» The Chief Guest inaugurated and hoisted a 100 feet high Monumental National Flag at the Academy Campus and unveiled and dedicated the installation of a Railway Coach with Engine for train intervention training.

» A Special “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” Edition of the “Rail Sainik”, the quarterly e-magazine of RPF was released on the occasion.

About RPF:
    • The Railway Protection Force was constituted by an Act of Parliament in 1957 for providing security to Railway property.
    • Subsequently, the force was empowered to enquire, arrest and prosecute the offenders involved in unlawful possession of railway property in 1966.
    • Over the years, it was felt that the force needed to be given the status of “An Armed Force of the Union” and finally the status was bestowed upon the force on 20th September 1985 by amending the RPF Act by the Parliament.
    • Therefore, 20th September is celebrated every year as the Raising Day of RPF by members of the force and their families.

President Kashi Vidvat Parishad, Prof Ram Yatna Shukla

⇒ Prof Ram Yatna Shukla, President Kashi Vidvat Parishad passed away on 20 September 2022. He was 90. He was also known as Abhinav Panini.

 About Ram Yatan Shukla:

Ram Yatna Shukla was an Indian scholar and linguist of the Sanskrit Language from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh and contributed to conserving ancient and Sanskrit texts.

He is the recipient of over 25 awards and a few notable awards include the Keshav Award, Vachaspati Award and Vishwabharti award. He was given the title of Mahamahopadhyaya.

In 2021, Ramayatna Shukla was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian honor in the social work category.

Vyakaran Darshne Shristi Prakriya Vimarsha is one of his notable works.

He founded the Uttar Pradesh Nagkoop Sastrath Samiti and Sanatan Sanskriti Samvardhan Parishad, both organizations engaged in the upliftment of Sanskrit language and moral values of the society.
