National:

7th Edition of MASCRADE 2021:
  • Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of Health and Family welfare on 21st January 2021 inaugurated the 7th Edition of “MASCRADE 2021” – “Movement against Smuggled & Counterfeit Trade”.

It was organised by FICCI Cascade.

In 7th edition of MASCRADE deliberated and discussed actionable, innovative policy solutions that can reverse the rising tide of counterfeit, smuggled and spurious products.

DRDO’s Smart Anti-Airfield Weapon:
  • DRDO successfully conducted ‘captive and release’ trial of indigenously developed Smart Anti-Airfield Weapon (SAAW), at the Odisha coast on 21 January 2021. The smart weapon was successfully test fired from Indian Hawk-Mk132 of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

This was the 9th successful mission of SAAW conducted by DRDO.

SAAW is indigenously designed and developed by Research Centre Imarat of DRDO, Hyderabad. This is 125 Kg class smart weapon, having range of up to 100 kms.

Book “Not Many, But One” – (‘नॉट मेनी, बट वन’ पुस्तक):
  • The Vice President, Shri Venkaiah Naidu virtually launched “NOT MANY, BUT ONE” Book – (“नॉट मेनी, बट वन” पुस्तक), on 22nd January 2021.

The book is an English translation of poems of Sree Narayana Gurudev, which is authored by Prof G K Sasidharan.

Mahavir Chakra to Colonel Bikumalla Santosh Babu:
  • Colonel Bikumalla Santosh Babu has been posthumously awarded with the second-highest military award, Mahavir Chakra, announced on 25th January 2021.

He led his troops against the “vicious” Chinese attack in Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh in June last year & martyr for our country.

Sports:

Director of Cricket of Rajasthan Royals:
  • Sri Lankan great batsman Kumar Sangakkara has been appointed as the director of cricket by Indian Premier League franchise Rajasthan Royals for the upcoming season, on 24th January 2021.
Death:
  • Bhajan Singer Shri Narendra Chanchal passed away due to age-related issues on 22nd January 2020 in New Delhi. He was 80.
    He won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Singer for Bobby film.
