Appointment:

Director General Medical Services (Navy):
  • Surgeon Vice Admiral Naveen Chawla, VSM has assumed appointment of Director General Medical Services (Navy) on 28 January 2021.
Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles:
  • 1985 batch Indian Administrative Service Officer (IAS) of Odisha cadre, Shri U. P. Singh took over as Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles, Govt of India on 27 January 2021.
Silver Jubilee Celebration of NICSI:
  • NICSI— (National Informatics Centre services Incorporated), a Public Sector Enterprise under National Informatics Centre (NIC), Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Govt of India, celebrated its Silver Jubilee i.e. 25 years of establishment on 28 January 2021.

International:

New Book:
  • Actor-writer Seth Rogen debut book “Yearbook” will be released on May 11. The book is published by Penguin Random House.  

The book billed as a collection of “true stories and essays”.

US Secretary of the Defence Department:
  • The United State Senate has confirmed General (retired) Lloyd Austin as the 28th secretary of the defence department on 22 January 2021.

Important Day:

International Customs Day, 2021:
  • The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) on 27 January 2021 observed the International Customs Day, 2021.

The theme for this year as given by World Customs Organisation (WCO) is “Customs bolstering Recovery, Renewal and Resilience for a sustainable supply chain”.

Seventeen officers have been awarded with WCO Certificate of Merit for the year 2021, for their exemplary contribution.

Death:
  • US actress Cloris Leachman has died in California on 27 January 2021. She was 94. She won best supporting actress Oscar for her role in the 1971 film The Last Picture Show.
  • Former Karnataka minister and JD(S) MLA, M C Managuli died due to Covid-19 complications in Bengaluru, on 28 January 2021. He was 85. He was two-time MLA from Sindgi constituency in Vijayapura district.
