National:

2nd edition of Fit India School Week:

  • Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports Shri Kiren Rijiju concluded the second edition of “Fit India School Week” program on January 27, 2021.

The 2nd edition of Fit India School Week started on 1st December 2020 and concluded on 31st January 2021.

It was conducted with the aim to encourage kids to inculcate physical activity and sports in their daily routine as school is the first place where habits are formed.

Some of the fitness activities that were a part of this year’s Fit India School Week program included aerobics, painting, quiz / debate competition, dance and step-up challenge, among many other activities.

Two New MDs of SBI:
  • The country’s largest Commercial Bank State Bank of India announced on 28 January 2021, Swaminathan J and Ashwini Kumar Tewari have taken charge as managing directors (MDs) of Bank.

International:

'Brand Finance Global' 500 2021 Ranking:

  • According to an annual report Brand Finance Global 500 2021, on the most valuable and strongest global brands:
In the World’s Strongest Brand Ranking:

Reliance Jio with score of 91.7 out of 100 has been ranked the fifth strongest brands globally.

WeChat has scored 95.4 out of 100 to become world’s strongest brand.

Ferrari scored 93.9 out of 100 & ranked second. Russian bank Sber (92.0) is placed third, while Coca-Cola (91.7) is placed fourth.

In the World’s Most Valuable Brands Ranking:

Apple has been named world’s most valuable brand, with brand value of US$263.4 billion. Amazon ranked second, Google ranked third, Microsoft ranked fourth and Samsung placed fifth.

Mastercard’s Ajay Banga best among top 100 CEOs in Brand Finance Brand Guardianship Index 2021, as commitment to technological innovation pays off.

Brand Finance Global 500 2021 rankings determines the relative strength of brands.

World Economic Forum’s Davos Agenda Summit:

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the World Economic Forum’s Davos Dialogue on 28th January, 2021.

More than 400 top industry leaders from across the globe attended the session, wherein the Prime Minister addressed the session on the subject of ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution – using technology for the good of humanity’. He also interacted with the CEOs during the event.

The Davos Agenda Summit was held from January 25 to 29 January, 2021.

The World Economic Forum’s Davos Agenda 2021 convened under the theme ‘A Crucial Year to Rebuild Trust’.

Sports:

World chess championship in Expo 2020 Dubai:
  • Expo 2020 Dubai will host this year’s World chess championship from November 24 to December 16, 2021. The championship will be organised by the International Chess Federation (FIDE).

The FIDE World Chess Championship will take place at Dubai Exhibition Centre, co-located at Expo 2020.
Expo 2020 Dubai will be organised from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022.
