YUVA- Prime Minister’s Scheme for Mentoring Young Authors

⇒ The Ministry of Education, Department of Higher Education launched YUVA- Prime Minister’s Scheme for Mentoring Young Authors, an Author Mentorship programme on 29 May 2021.

Aim:

The Author Mentorship programme is aimed to train young and budding authors (below 30 years of age) in order to promote reading, writing and book culture in the country, and project India and Indian writings globally.

The launch of YUVA (Young, Upcoming and Versatile Authors) is in tune with PM’s vision to encourage young writers to write about India’s freedom struggle.

The National Book Trust, India under the Ministry of Education as the Implementing Agency will ensure phase-wise execution of the Scheme under well-defined stages of mentorship.

Publication:

The books prepared under this scheme will be published by National Book Trust, India. The published books will be launched on 12 January 2022 on the occasion of National Youth Day (Yuva Diwas).

Online tracking portal 'Bal Swaraj- COVID-Care link'

⇒ In view of the growing problem related to children affected by Coronavirus, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights as a monitoring authority under section 109 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, has devised an online tracking portal ‘Bal Swaraj- COVID-Care’.

This portal of the Commission has been created with a purpose for online tracking and digital real time monitoring mechanism of children, who are in need of care and protection.

Offshore Patrol Vessel Sajag

⇒ National Security Advisor Shri Ajit Doval commissioned Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) Sajag, & dedicated it to the nation for safeguarding the maritime interests on May 29, 2021.

Offshore Patrol Vessel Sajag is constructed by M/s Goa Shipyard Limited.

India Biodiversity Awards 2021

⇒The India Biodiversity Awards 2021 were announced during the national level program on International Day for Biological Diversity 2021 i.e. on 22 May 2021, by Shri Babul Supriyo, Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India.

Fifth BRICS Working Group meeting on HPC and ICT

⇒ Under the Science, Technology, and Innovation track, the Fifth BRICS Working Group meeting on High Performance Computing (HPC) and Information Communication Technologies (ICT) was organized on 27th & 28th May, 2021.

Host:

The meeting was hosted and organized by South Africa.

Participants:

All five BRICS countries Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, participated. More than 50 participants, including researchers, academicians, and government officials, took part in the meeting.

Discussion:
    • During the BRICS Working Group Meeting, High Performance Computing (HPC) and Information Communication Technologies (ICT) were discussed.
    • India shared the concept note on cooperation amongst the BRICS startups in deep technology in areas of healthcare, agriculture, and education.
    • China proposed AI+HPC+5 G-based digital twin platforms and an open-source ecosystem for smart manufacturing, precision farming, and precision medicine.
    • Brazil and South Africa proposed the flagship project on Digital Earth.
    • Each nation shared their country’s progress in building an HPC infrastructures network and areas of interest for advancing BRICS collaboration.
  • BRICS Presidency:
  • This meeting is part of BRICS Science, Technology and Innovation Calendar of Activities 2020-21 adopted by all BRICS countries. India has assumed the BRICS Presidency from January 2021.

47th FIH Congress

⇒ President’s award by International Hockey Federation:

V. Karthikeya Pandian, an IAS officer, and private secretary to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was conferred with President’s award by International Hockey Federation during the 47th FIH Congress on 22 May 2021.

Karthikeyan was awarded for his contribution towards the development and promotion of hockey in Odisha.

FIH President:

At the 47th FIH Congress, FIH President Narinder Dhruv Batra was re-elected as the President of the FIH on 22 May 2021. He became the first Indian to be elected as President of the FIH for the second consecutive term.

Statehood Day of Goa:

⇒ Indian Union Territory, Goa celebrated its Statehood Day on 30 May 2021.

Inauguration of Second Floating Jetty:

On the occasion of Goa statehood day, Union Minister of State (I/C) for Ports, Shipping & Waterways Shri Mansukh Mandaviya in the presence of Chief Minister of Goa Shri Pramod Sawant inaugurated the second floating jetty at Old Goa.
Shri Mandaviya also announced that Panjim and Old Goa will be connected by ferry and cruise services.

The Government of India has approved setting up of two Concrete floating jetties on River Mondovi (NW-68) to connect Old Goa and Panjim. This is the second floating jetty constructed on River Mondovi (NW-68). The first jetty is located at Captain of Ports, Panjim Goa.
