Special commemorative coin released on the occasion of birth anniversary of Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada Ji

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi released a special commemorative coin of ₹ 125 on 1st September 2021 on the occasion of 125th birth anniversary of Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada Ji and also addressed the gathering.

About:

Swami ji founded the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) commonly known as the “Hare Krishna movement”. ISKCON has translated Shrimad Bhagvad Geeta and other Vedic literature in 89 languages, playing a stellar role in dissemination of Vedic literature across the world.

Rajbhasha Kirti Award for 2020-21

⇒ Deendayal Port Trust, consecutively second time, bagged the highest “Rajbhasha Kirti Award (Third prize in ‘B’ region)” for the year 2020-21.

The Department of Official Language, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India announced this award on 31 August 2021.

Deendayal Port Trust has received the award for excellent performance in the field of Official Language Implementation amongst various Boards/Autonomous Bodies/Trusts/Societies etc. of Government of India.

'Yoga-Break' (Y-Break) Mobile Application

⇒ Union Minister of Ayush and Minister of Port, Shipping & Highways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, along with four Union Ministers, launched the ‘Yoga-Break’ (Y-Break) Mobile Application on 01 September 2021, as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

5 – minute ‘Yoga Break Protocol

The 5 – minute ‘Yoga Break Protocol’ consists of a very useful Yoga practices devised to de-stress, refresh and re-focus on work to increase the productivity of individuals at workplace. The concept of “Yoga Break” (Y-Break) is relevant to working professionals across the world.

First indigenous comprehensive Naval Anti Drone System

⇒ Indian Navy has signed contract with Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Limited (BEL) for supply of the first indigenous comprehensive Naval Anti Drone System (NADS) with both hard kill and soft kill capabilities in New Delhi on August 31, 2021.

Developed by:

The NADS, developed by DRDO and manufactured by BEL, is the first indigenously developed anti-drone system to be inducted into the Indian Armed Forces.

About NADS:

The NADS can instantly detect and jam micro drones and use a laser-based kill mechanism to terminate targets.

The NADS uses the help of Radar, Electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) sensors and Radio Frequency (RF) detectors to detect and jam the micro drones.

First Ever Woman Mining Engineer to work in Underground Mines

⇒ Ms Akanksha Kumari, a resident of Barkagaon in Hazaribagh district, Jharkhand became the first ever woman mining engineer to work in an underground mine at Churi, North Karanpura area of Central Coalfields Ltd under the Ministry of Coal.

SpaceX launched ants, avocados, robot to ISS

⇒ A SpaceX shipment of ants, avocados and a human-sized robotic arm was rocketed toward the International Space Station on 29 August 2021. This was the company’s 23rd delivery for NASA in the last 10 years.

Dragon:

The recycled rocket took off from the Kennedy Space Center. The Dragon capsule booster landed successfully on SpaceX’s newest ocean platform called ‘A Shortfall of Gravitas’.

Shipment:

The shipment includes more than 4,800 pounds of supplies for the astronauts, including avocados, lemons, ice cream. The Girl Scouts are sending ants, shrimp and plants for the 7 astronauts to do experiments on.

Robotic Arm:

The robotic arm was manufactured by a Japanese start-up and will be used to perform mundane chores around the Station in a one of it’s kind experiment.

Washington DC South Asian Film Festival

⇒ Filmmaker Goutam Ghose’s film “Raahgir” has bagged four awards at the Washington DC South Asian Film Festival.

Four Awards:
  • Best feature film: ‘Raahgir: The Wayfarers’
  • Best director: Goutam Ghose
  • Best female actor: Tillotama Shome
  • Best male actor: Adil Hussain

The DCSAFF festival, which showcases alternative and independent cinema from South Asia, was held from August 28 to August 29, 2021.

In June this year, ‘Raahgir’ had won two awards at the prestigious UK Asian Film Festival 2021. It was the 23rd edition of the UK Asian Film Festival (UKAFF).
  • Best director: Goutam Ghose
  • Best female actress: Tillotama Shome

Emirates vice president for India and Nepal

⇒ Gulf carrier Emirates has appointed Mohammad Sarhan as vice president for India and Nepal. Sarhan, whose appointment is effective from September 1, 2021.

Sarhan has been appointed to manage the airline’s commercial operations, drive business growth and lead its strategic initiatives across the region.

Global Hunger Index 2021 Report

⇒ Global Hunger Index 2021 report has been released on October 14, 2021.

The report was prepared jointly by Irish aid agency Concern Worldwide and German organisation Welt Hunger Hilfe.

India’s Rank:

India is ranked 101 out of 116 countries in the 2021 Global Hunger Index. With a score of 27.5, India has a level of hunger that is serious.
