Mission Poshan 2.0

⇒ Focusing on the aims of POSHAN Abhiyaan, Mission Poshan 2.0 (Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0) was announced in the Budget 2021-2022 as an integrated nutrition support programme.

Aim:

The programme aims to strengthen nutritional content, delivery, outreach and outcomes with focus on developing practices that nurture health, wellness and immunity to disease and malnutrition.

This year, Mission Poshan 2.0 was subdivided into weekly themes for focused and assimilated approach towards improving Holistic Nutrition for the entire month.

» First Week: 1-7 September, 2021

Theme 1: Plantation Activity as “PoshanVatika”

» Second Week: 8-15 September, 2021

Theme 2: “Yoga and AYUSH for Nutrition”

» Third Week: 16-23 September, 2021

Theme 3: Distribution of ‘Regional Nutrition Kit’ to Anganwadi beneficiaries of High Burdened Districts

» Fourth Week: 24-30 September, 2021

Theme 4: Identification of SAM children and distribution of nutritious food

About Poshan Abhiyaan:

Poshan Abhiyaan overall intends to increase nutritional awareness and responsiveness among mothers of young children, adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating women, family members including husbands, father, mothers-in-law and community members, health care providers about vital nutrition behaviours.

POSHAN (Prime Minister’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nutrition) Abhiyaan is Government of India’s flagship programme to improve nutritional outcomes for children, adolescent Girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers.

It was launched by the Ministry of Women and Child Development on the occasion of International Women’s Day on 8 March, 2018 from Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan.

Digital Quiz Contest 'AmritMahotsavWithKhadi'

⇒ The Vice President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu launched the digital quiz contest called AmritMahotsavWithKhadi on 31 August 2021 in New Delhi. The Quiz contest ran for 15 days from 31 August 2021 to 14 September 2021.

The Quiz was designed by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), to celebrate Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Objective:

The objective of the Quiz Contest was to connect the public with the Indian Freedom Struggle, the sacrifices of freedom fighters and the legacy of Khadi since the Pre-Independence era. It comprised questions pertaining to Indian freedom struggle, Khadi’s role in the Swadeshi Movement and Indian polity.

‘Desh Ke Mentors’ programme

⇒ Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on 11 October 2021 launched the ‘Desh Ke Mentors’ programme.

Brand Ambassador:

Actor Sonu Sood has been appointed as the brand ambassador for the programme ‘Desh Ke Mentors’ on 27 August 2021.

About ‘Desh Ke Mentors’ programme:

Under the programme, nine lakh students of classes 9 to 12 in Delhi government schools will be connected with noteworthy citizens who will offer them career and general guidance.

App:

Interested citizens from across the country can become mentors by registering on the Desh ke Mentors app. The app was developed by a team from Delhi Technological University (DTU).

International

Exercise Malabar 2021

⇒ Indian Naval Ships Shivalik and Kadmatt arrived at Guam, an Island Territory of the USA on 21 August 2021 as part of their on-going deployment to nations in South East Asia and the Pacific Ocean.

Operational Turn Around:

The Indian Navy ships sailed from Guam where they participated in Operational Turn Around from 21-24 August 2021.

Exercise Malabar 2021:

Indian Navy participated in the sea phase of Exercise Malabar 2021 from 26–29 August 2021 along with the US Navy (USN), Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) and the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).

This was the 25th edition of Ex Malabar hosted by USN in the Western Pacific.

Participation:

Indian Navy participation included INS Shivalik and INS Kadmatt and P8I patrol aircraft.

Others:

The US Navy was represented by USS Barry, USNS Rappahannock, USNS Big Horn and P8A patrol aircraft. The Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force was represented by JS Kaga, Murasame and Shiranui, in addition to a submarine and P1 patrol aircraft. The Royal Australian Navy was represented by HMAS Warramunga.

MALABAR-21 witnessed complex exercises including anti-surface, anti-air and anti-submarine warfare drill, and other manoeuvres and tactical exercises.

About:

Malabar series of maritime exercise commenced in 1992 as an IN-USN Exercise. In 2015, Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force joined Malabar as a permanent member. The 2020 edition witnessed participation of the Royal Australian Navy.

KAZIND-21

⇒ The 5th edition of Indo- Kazakhstan Joint Training Exercise, “KAZIND-21” was conducted from 30 August to 11 September 2021 at Training Node, Aisha Bibi, Kazakhstan.

The exercise was a joint training between both the Armies to boost the bilateral relations between India and Kazakhstan.

Participation:

The Indian Army contingent was represented by a battalion of The Bihar Regiment consists of a total of 90 personnel led by a Contingent Commander. The Kazakhstan Army was represented by a company group.

Significance:

The Exercise provided an opportunity to the Armed Forces of India & Kazakhstan to train for Counter Insurgency/ Counter Terrorism operation in mountainous, rural scenario under UN mandate.

The scope of Joint Exercise includes professional exchange, planning & execution of operation in Counter terrorism environment at sub unit level and sharing expertise on skills at arms, combat shooting and experiences in Counter Insurgency/ Counter Terrorism operations.

The exercise strengthened mutual confidence, inter-operability and enable sharing of best practices between the Armed Forces of India and Kazakhstan.

Death

Renowned Bengali Writer, Buddhadeb Guha

⇒ Renowned Bengali Writer Buddhadeb Guha passed away on 29 August 2021 in Kolkata. He was 85.

His novels and short stories have been highly acclaimed by critics which helped him win several awards, including the Ananda Purashkar and Sharat Puraskar.

He has written notable books, including ‘Koel’, ‘Kojagar’, ‘Madhukari’(Honey Gatherer), ‘Jangalmahal’, ‘Charibeti’ etc. He is also the creator of two popular fictional characters in Bengali literature – Rivu and Rijuda.”
