National:

Textbooks & Cash Subsidy to Students of Delhi Government & aided School:
  • On 12 January 2021, the Delhi Cabinet approved over Rs 64 crore for disbursement of cash subsidy to about 11 lakh students of Delhi Government and aided schools for their textbooks and writing material.

The Directorate of Education of Delhi government, annually provides textbooks and cash through direct benefit transfer to school students of government and aided schools in classes one to eight, and cash subsidy to students of classes nine to twelve.

16th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention 2021:
  • The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the 16th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention 2021, on 09 January 2021. It was held in virtual mode in New Delhi.
    The theme of 16th PBD Convention 2021 is ‘Contributing to Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.

International:

Natural Capital Accounting and Valuation of the Ecosystem Services (NCAVES) India Forum-2021:
  • NCAVES India Forum 2021 is being organised by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). The NCAVES Project is funded by EU.

It has been jointly implemented by the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Secretariat of the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD).

India, Brazil, China, South Africa and Mexico are the five countries taking part in this project.

The NCAVES India Forum 2021 is being held on 14, 21 and 28 January 2021 in a virtual format with live sessions, focusing on the following:

January 14, 2021: Efforts made by the international agencies in the domain of natural capital accounting and valuation of ecosystem services

January 21, 2021: Policy Demand for NCA in India

January 28, 2021: Achievements in natural capital accounting and valuation of ecosystem services and Prospects of natural capital accounting in India

Death:
  • Veteran professor & eminent academician, Chitra Ghosh passed away due to cardiac arrest on January 7, 2021. She was 90 years old.
    She was the youngest daughter of Sarat Chandra Bose and niece of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. She authored many books such as- ‘Mother of my Heart: The Story of Bivabati Bose’; ‘A Daughter Remembers: Life and Times of Sarat Chandra Bose’; ‘Opening the Closed Windows’.
