PM lays foundation stone & dedicates multiple projects at Ramagundam

⇒ The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and dedicated to the nation multiple projects worth over Rs 9500 crores in Ramagundam, Telangana on 12 November 2022.

About Multiple projects:

» The Prime Minister dedicated Fertilizer plant at Ramagundam to the nation whose foundation stone for Ramagundam Project was also laid by the Prime Minister on 7th August 2016.

    • The Ramagundam Plant will make available 12.7 LMT per annum of indigenous neem-coated Urea production.
    • The project has been set up under the aegis of Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (RFCL) which is a Joint Venture Company of National Fertilizers Limited (NFL), Engineers India Ltd (EIL) and Fertilizer Corporation of India Limited (FCIL).
    • RFCL was entrusted with the responsibility of setting up the New Ammonia-Urea Plant with an investment of more than Rs 6300 crores. Gas to RFCL Plant will be supplied through Jagdishpur – Phulpur- Haldia Pipeline.
    • The plant would ensure adequate and timely supply of urea fertilizer to the farmers in the state of Telangana as well as in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Chattisgarh and Maharashtra.
    • RFCL’s ‘Bharat Urea’ will provide a tremendous boost to the economy by not only reducing imports but also by giving an impetus to the local farmers through a timely supply of fertilizers and extension services.

» The Prime Minister also dedicated the Bhadrachalam Road- Sattupalli rail line to the nation, which has been built at a cost of around Rs 1000 crores.

» He also laid the foundation stone of various road projects worth over Rs 2200 crores, namely the Medak-Siddipet-Elkathurthy section of NH-765DG; Bodhan-Basar-Bhainsa section of NH-161BB; Sironcha to Mahadevpur Section of NH-353C.

CII Madhya Pradesh Conclave on Digital Acceleration

⇒ The Minister of State for Electronics & Information Technology and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar addressed the CII Madhya Pradesh Conclave on Digital Acceleration in Indore on 11 November 2022.

Speakers at the conclave focused on the future of digitalisation, with particular reference to how it can help businesses grow and innovate for the goal of a Aatmanirbhar Madhya Pradesh and a Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

Pride of Madhya Pradesh Awards:

» During his day-long visit, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar attended the Invest Indore programme, presented Pride of Madhya Pradesh Awards to 75 IT/ITEs companies working in Madhya Pradesh at a ceremony organized by Sankalp Seva Sadan Mission in Indore.

    • Awards were given to the best startups and IT and ITEs companies based in Indore for their contribution to the development of the city’s business environment.

» Neevcloud – an indigenously built super cloud marketplace was also launched at the event.

16th Asian Conference on Diarrhoeal Disease and Nutrition (ASCODD)

⇒ Union Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar addressed the 16th Asian Conference on Diarrhoeal Disease and Nutrition (ASCODD) at Kolkata on 11 November 2022.

Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar said, “Over the years, the ASCODD has expanded the discussions in many dimensions, not only on the epidemiology of cholera and typhoid, but also on enteric vaccine initiatives, antimicrobial resistance, water, environmental and sanitation aspects, molecular diagnostics, food and nutrition etc.”

Dr Bharati Pawar noted that Lessons learnt in the past indicated that strengthening health systems is mandatory for fighting communicable and non-communicable diseases.

ICMR-National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases organized the 16th Asian Conference on Diarrhoeal Disease and Nutrition.

» Delegates from India and other South East Asian countries, African countries, US, European countries joined the conference virtually.

Theme:

The theme of the ASCODD was “Prevention and control of cholera, typhoid and other enteric diseases in low and middle-income countries through community participation: beyond the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic”.

Focus:

» The program of this conference was focused on the latest issues in enteric infections, nutrition, policy, and Practice.

    • These include roadmap to end Cholera by 2030, Cholera vaccine development and rapid diagnostics, contemporary perspectives of antimicrobial resistance of enteric bacteria: new Initiatives and challenges, enteric bacterial infections, including Shigella spp, epidemiology, burden, and vaccines against other viral infections, including Hepatitis, lessons learned about diarrhoea research during the COVID pandemic.

9th meeting of India-U.S. Economic and Financial Partnership

⇒ The 9th Ministerial meeting of the India-US Economic and Financial Partnership was held on 11 November 2022.

Led by:

The Indian delegation was led by Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs Smt Nirmala Sitharaman and the USA delegation was led by Dr Janet Yellen, Treasury Secretary.

Key Points:
    • The 9th India-US EFP meeting covered the discussion on various economic issues including global macroeconomic outlook, climate finance, supply chain resilience, international taxation, anti-money laundering, combating terrorism financing, India’s upcoming G20 presidency, and MDB’s reforms.
    • At the sidelines of EFP meeting, a presentation on India digital innovation was made to the Secretary of the Treasury to explore possibility of collaboration between India and USA for furthering the digital progress that is human-centric, solves societal problems, unleashes innovations across ecosystem, and empowers individuals and small business.
    • A business event was also held which was attended by eminent economists and business leaders across sectors from the industry.
» The meeting concluded with adoption of Joint Statement by the Union Finance Minister and US Treasury Secretary.

Highlights of the Joint Statement:

    • Both countries will continue to work to enhance mutual collaboration in sharing of information to tackle offshore tax evasion.  India and the United States make note of the progress made under the Inter-Governmental Agreement pursuant to the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) with respect to sharing of financial account information. The two sides will continue to engage in discussions on full reciprocal arrangement on FATCA.
    • Both countries underscore their commitment towards exploring promising avenues of mutual collaboration, including India’s maiden IFSC in GIFT City, Gujarat, during the 11th U.S.-India Financial Regulatory Dialogue to be held in the first half of 2023.
    • India and the United States look forward to working together to prepare more cities to issue municipal bonds.
    • Both sides agree on the importance of fighting financial crimes and on the effective implementation of the Financial Action Task Force standards to protect our financial systems from abuse. Moving forward, the United States and India will continue to exchange views on best practices and solutions for combating AML/CFT challenges.
    • This ninth meeting of the Economic and Financial Partnership reflected the growing importance of the U.S.-India relationship and the increasing economic and financial ties between our two economies.
