8th Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission

⇒ President Ram Nath Kovind formally appointed Justice Arun Kumar Mishra as the chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), on 01 June 2021.

Former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, Mr Justice Arun Kumar Mishra has joined as the 8th Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission, India.

Justice Mishra’s name was recommended by a high powered selection panel consisting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Harivansh, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge.

State Election Commissioner of TN

⇒ Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit has appointed retired IAS officer V Palanikumar as the State Election Commissioner for a period of two years.

Interim Chief of the Central Board of Direct Taxes

⇒ The Centre’s Department of Revenue has appointed J.B. Mohapatra as the interim chief of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) for three months, on 31 May 2021.

Recently, Mr Mohapatra was made a member of the apex policy-making body of income tax. He is an Indian Revenue Service income tax cadre officer from 1985 batch.

New Chairperson of the Executive Board of the WHO

⇒ Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare in his capacity as Chairperson, Executive Board, World Health Organization (WHO) addressed the 149th Session of the WHO Executive Board Meeting on 02 June 2021 through Video Conference.

Dr Harsh Vardhan successfully completes his tenure as Chairperson of Executive Board of WHO on June 02, 2021. Dr Patrick Amoth from Kenya has been elected as the new Chairperson of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO).

⇒ ICC World Test Championship 2021 Final was played between India & New Zealand at Hampshire Bowl, Southampton, England from 18 June to 23 June, 2021.

New Zealand :249 & 140/2

New Zealand won World Test Championship by 8 wickets.

National football Team Coach

⇒ National football team coach Igor Stimac’s tenure has been extended till September 2021 by All India Football Federation’s technical committee. The decesion was made in technical committee’s virtual meeting held on 28 May 2021. Igor Stimac was appointed as coach in May 2019 for a two-year term.

Death

Indian Track and Field Sprinter, Milkha Singh

⇒ Indian Track and Field Sprinter, Milkha Singh also known as ‘The Flying Sikh’, died on 18 June 2021. He was 91 years old.

He won gold medals in the 1958 and 1962 Asian Games. He also won a gold medal at the 1958 Commonwealth Games in Cardiff. He represented India in three Olympics games: 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne; 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome; 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo

Shri Jemadar Milkha Singh was conferred with the Padma Shri award in 1959 for his recognition in sporting achievements.

An autobiography of Milkha Singh, ‘THE RACE OF MY LIFE An Autobiography’ was written by Milkha Singh along with Sonia Sanwalka. It was published by Rupa Publications.

Swiss Moto3 Rider, Jason Dupasquier

⇒ Swiss Moto3 rider Jason Dupasquier died after a crash in qualifying session of the Italian Grand Prix at the Mugello Circuit, MotoGP on 29 May 2021.
