Changing the nomenclature & mandate of North Eastern Institute of Folk Medicine

⇒The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given its approval for changing the nomenclature & mandate of North Eastern Institute of Folk Medicine (NEIFM) as North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Folk Medicine Research (NEIAFMR), on 14 July 2021.

Vietnam's First Honorary Consul General in India

⇒ Industrialist N S Srinivasa Murthy based in Bengaluru has been appointed as Honorary Consul General of Vietnam for Karnataka. He has been appointed for a period of three years.

He is the first honorary consul general of Vietnam from India and the 19th across the world. He is the third Consul General to be appointed globally this year.

Vietnam has appointed Honorary Consul General of Vietnam to promote trade, economics, investment, tourism, educational and cultural cooperation between Vietnam and the State of Karnataka

MoU between India and the Kingdom of Denmark

⇒ The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the MoU between the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare of the Government of India and the Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Denmark on Cooperation in the field of Health and Medicine.

Benefits:

The bilateral MoU will encourage cooperation between the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Republic of India and the Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Denmark through joint initiatives and technology development in the health sector. This will facilitate in improving the public health status of the people of both the countries. It will strengthen bilateral ties between India and Denmark.

MoU between India and Russian Federation

⇒ The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Steel of the Republic of India and the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation on cooperation regarding coking Coal, which is used for Steel making.

Benefits:

The MoU shall benefit the entire steel sector by reducing their input cost. This may lead to reduction in cost of steel in the country and promote equity and inclusiveness. The MoU will provide an institutional mechanism for co-operation in the coking coal sector between India and Russia.

Expert Committee on 'Longevity Finance'

⇒ International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) has been established as a unified regulator to develop and regulate financial products, financial services, and financial institutions in the International Financial Services Centres (IFSCs) in India.

IFSCA, in its endeavour to develop a Longevity Finance Hub in GIFT IFSC has constituted an Expert Committee to recommend approach towards development of Longevity Finance Hub and provide road map for the same.

The expert committee is being co-chaired by Ms. Kaku Nakhate, President and Country Head (India), Bank of America, and Mr. Gopalan Srinivasan, Ex-CMD, New India Assurance Company Limited.

World Population Day

⇒ The world celebrates World Population Day on July 11 every year. 

Theme:

The theme for World Population Day 2021 was “Rights and choices are the answer: Whether baby boom or bust, the solution to shifting fertility rates lies in prioritizing the reproductive health and rights of all people.”

Significance:

The United Nations General Assembly decided to observe World Population Day to enhance awareness of population issues, including their relations to the environment and development.

History:

World Population Day was established by the United Nations Development Programme in 1989. On 11 July 1987 – the Day of Five Billion was observed when the world’s population was well above five billion.
