Hologram statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose

⇒ In order to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of the great freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and as part of the year-long celebrations, the government has decided to install a grand statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at India Gate.

Till the grand statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is completed, the Prime Minister unveiled his Hologram statue on his birth anniversary on 23rd January, 2022.

The Government of India has decided to observe 23 January as ‘Parakram Diwas’ to commemorate the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

About Hologram:
    • The hologram statue is powered by a 30,000 lumens 4K projector. An invisible, high gain, 90% transparent holographic screen has been erected in such a way so that it is not visible to visitors.
    • The 3D image of Netaji is projected on it to create the effect of a hologram. The size of the hologram statue is 28 feet in height and 6 feet in width.

Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar

⇒ Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi conferred Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskars for the year 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022. The award is announced every year on 23rd January, the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

Netaji Award 2022

⇒ Former Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was conferred with the Netaji Award 2022 by Netaji Research Bureau on 23 January 2022.

Consul General of Japan in Kolkata Nakamura Yutaka received the honour on behalf of Abe at a function at the Elgin Road residence of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his 125th birth anniversary.

Chairperson of the PMLA Adjudicating Authority

⇒ Vinodanand Jha, a 1983-batch retired IRS officer has been appointed as the chairperson of the PMLA Adjudicating Authority located in the national capital.

    • Jha has been serving as the Member (Finance and Accounts) in the Authority since September 2018.

An order issued by the Union Finance Ministry on January 20 said Jha’s appointment to the post of chairperson will be till the completion of his tenure on June 22 next year.

About:

The three-member Authority is mandated to adjudicate the cases of attachment of assets orders issued under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and order for its continuity and further confiscation or release, considering the merits of the investigation.

CMD of Air India

⇒ Vikram Dev Dutt took charge as the chairman and managing director (CMD) of Air India on 21 January 2022. Dutt is a 1993-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territory) cadre.

The government had on October 8 last year announced that the Tata Group has won the bid to acquire Air India for Rs 18,000 crore.

Genesis Prize 2022

⇒ Albert Bourla, chairman and chief executive of global pharmaceutical giant Pfizer Inc., has been awarded the prestigious Genesis Prize for the year 2022 on January 19, 2022.

    • Bourla was awarded for his efforts in leading the development of a COVID-19 vaccine (Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine).
About Prize:
    • The prize was inaugurated in 2014.
    • The Prize awards $1 million to one person each year.
    • The prize is given each year to a Jewish person for their professional achievements, contributions to humanity and commitment to Jewish values.
    • The Prize is run in a partnership between the private Genesis Prize Foundation and the chairman’s office of the Jewish Agency, a nonprofit group that has close ties to the Israeli government.

16th official Queen’s Baton Relay

⇒ Tokyo Olympics silver medal winning wrestler Ravi Dahiya kicked off the India-leg of the Queens Baton Relay for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games with a symbolic run in the National Capital on January 12, 2022.

    • The 16th official Queen’s Baton Relay held in India from 12-15 January 2022.

The 16th official Queen’s Baton Relay started at the Buckingham Palace in London on 7th October 2021 and is scheduled to conclude on 28th July 2022 at the Opening Ceremony of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games after travelling 72 nations and territories of the Commonwealth for 294 days.

ICC Under-19 Men's Cricket World Cup 2022

⇒ The 2022 Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup was held in the West Indies from 14 January to 5 February, 2022. This was the 14th edition of the Under-19 World Cup.

Final Match:

The final was played between India and England on 5 February at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua, West Indies.

Winner:
    • India won the final match by defeating England by 4 wickets.
    • This was India’s fifth ICC Under-19 World Cup victory, the maximum by any country.

Death

Renowned archaeologist, art historian Thiru Ramachandaran Nagaswamy

⇒ Renowned archaeologist, art historian and Padma Bhushan awardee Thiru Ramachandaran Nagaswamy died on 23 January 2022 in Chennai. He was 91.

Nagaswamy founded the Institute of Epigraphy and Archaeology in 1973 in the government department. Nagaswamy became the first director of the Tamil Nadu government’s Department of Archaeology in 1966.

A noted scholar, researcher and art historian, he has published many books including the, ‘Masterpieces of Early South Indian Bronzes’.

He was awarded the prestigious Padma Bhushan in 2018 for his outstanding contribution to archaeology.
