National:
  • The Ministry of Women and Child Development has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) to work together on 20th September, 2020.
    This aims to control the menace of malnutrition through integration of AYUSH systems with the ongoing nutrition interventions under the Umbrella ICDS (Integrated Child Development Services) program.
    ICDS is a government programme in India which provides Supplementary Nutrition, Pre-school non-formal education, Nutrition & health education, Immunization, Health check-up and Referral services to children under 6 years of age, pregnant women and lactating mothers.
  • Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar on 24th September, 2020 said, the 51st edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) has been postponed to January 16-24 in 2021. It will be held in a hybrid format that will be both virtual and physical. Earlier, it was scheduled to be held in Goa from November 20-28.

International:
  • The Election Commission of India organized an International Webinar on 21st September 2020 on its completion of one year of Chairmanship of the Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB).
    The theme of the webinar was “Issues, Challenges and Protocols for Conducting Elections during COVID-19: Sharing Country Experiences.”
    The Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB) is largest association of Election Management Bodies (EMBs) worldwide.
    This was first Webinar held by the India A-WEB Centre, New Delhi. Over 120 delegates from 45 countries across the world were participated in the Webinar.
Technology:
  • Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras Researchers have booted up “MOUSHIK” microprocessor cum “system on chip”. This is an indigenously made microprocessor.
    It has been conceptualized, designed and developed at the Pratap Subrahmanyam Centre for Digital Intelligence and Secure Hardware Architecture (PS-CDISHA) of the RISE Group, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Madras. It can cater to the rapidly-growing IoT devices, an integral part of Smart Cities of a Digital India.
Appointment:
  • In Cabinet meeting held on 23 September 2020, the government has decided to appoint Akhil C Banerjee as Director, Institute of Advanced Virology (IAV).
Award:
  • Kerala Tourism’s internationally acclaimed “Human by Nature” Print campaign has bagged the prestigious PATA (Pacific Asia Travel Association) Grand Title Award 2020 for marketing. Death:
  • Former Australia batsman Dean Jones died due to cardiac arrest in Mumbai on 24th September, 2020. He was 59. He was in Mumbai, India with the Star Sports’ commentary team for the Indian Premier League 2020.
  • Veteran atomic scientist Dr Sekhar Basu died in Kolkata on 24 September 2020. Earlier He was found positive for Novel coronavirus. He was 68. He was the former chairman of Atomic Energy Commission & also awarded by Padma Shri.
