Basic Animal Husbandry Statistics 2023

⇒ Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying Shri Parshottam Rupala released the Basic Animal Husbandry Statistics 2023 (milk, egg, meat and wool production 2022-23) during the National Milk Day event at Guwahati on 26 November 2023.

    • Basic Animal Husbandry Statistics 2023 (milk, egg, meat and wool production 2022-23) was based on Animal Integrated Sample Survey (March 2022-February 2023).
The main features of the Basic Animal Husbandry Statistics are:
Milk Production 2022-23:
    • The total Milk production in the country is estimated as 230.58 million tonnes during 2022-23 registered a growth of 22.81% over the past 5 years which was 187.75 million tonnes in 2018-19.
    • Further, the production has increased by 3.83% during 2022-23 over the estimates of 2021-22.
    • In past, the annual growth rates were 6.47% in 2018-19; 5.69% in 2019-20; 5.81% in 2020-21 and 5.77% in 2021-22.
    • The highest milk producing State during 2022-23 was Uttar Pradesh with a share of 15.72 % of total milk production followed by Rajasthan (14.44 %), Madhya Pradesh (8.73 %), Gujarat (7.49 %), and Andhra Pradesh (6.70 %).
    • In terms of annual growth rate (AGR), the highest AGR recorded by Karnataka (8.76%) followed by West Bengal (8.65%) and Uttar Pradesh (6.99%) over the previous year.
Egg Production 2022-23:
    • The total Egg production in the country has estimated as 138.38 billion nos. during 2022-23 registered a growth of 33.31% growth over the past 5 years as compared to the estimates of 103.80 billion numbers during 2018-19.
    • Further, the production has increased annually by 6.77% during 2022-23 over 2021-22. In past the annual growth rate was 9.02% in 2018-19; 10.19% in 2019-20; 6.70% in 2020-21 and 6.19% in 2021-22.
    • The Major contribution in the total Egg production comes from Andhra Pradesh with a share of 20.13 % of total Egg production followed by Tamil Nadu (15.58 %), Telangana (12.77 %), West Bengal (9.94%) and Karnataka (6.51 %).
    • In terms of AGR, the highest growth rate was recorded by West Bengal (20.10%) and followed by Sikkim (18.93%) and Uttar Pradesh (12.80%).
Meat Production 2022-23:
    • The total Meat production in the country is estimated as 9.77million tonnes during 2022-23 registered a growth of 20.39 % over the past 5 years as compared to the estimates of 8.11 million tonnes in 2018-19. Further, the production was increased by 5.13 % in 2022-23 over 2021-22.
    • In the past the growth rate was 5.99 % in 2018-19; 5.98 % in 2019-20; 2.30% in 2020-21 and 5.62 % in 2021-22.
    • The Major contribution in the total meat production comes from Uttar Pradesh with 12.20 % share and followed by West Bengal (11.93 %), Maharashtra (11.50 %), Andhra Pradesh (11.20 %) and Telangana (11.06 %).
    • In terms of annual growth rate, the highest Annual Growth Rate (AGR) has recorded in Sikkim (63.08%) followed by Meghalaya (38.34%) and Goa (22.98%).
Wool Production 2022-23:
    • The total Wool production in the country is estimated as 33.61 million kg during 2022-23 registered a negative growth of 16.84% over the past 5 years as compared to the estimates of 40.42 million kg during 2018-19. However, the production has increased by 2.12% in 2022-23 over 2021-22.
    • In past the growth rates were -2.51% in 2018-19; -9.05% in 2019-20, – 0.46% in 2020-21and -10.87% in 2021-22.
    • The Major contribution in the total Wool production comes from Rajasthan with a share of 47.98% followed by Jammu & Kashmir (22.55%), Gujarat (6.01%), Maharashtra (4.73%) and Himachal Pradesh (4.27%).
    • In terms of annual growth rate, the highest AGR has recorded by Arunachal Pradesh (35.75%) followed by Rajasthan (6.06%) and Jharkhand (2.36%).

President of India presents the President's Colour to the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune

⇒ The President of India and the Supreme Commander of Armed Forces, Smt Droupadi Murmu, conferred the President’s Colour to Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune on 01 December 2023, in its platinum jubilee year.

    • A special cover and stamp and a commemorative coin of Rs 75 were also released by the President at the grand ceremony.
Key Points:
    • President’s Colour, also known as ‘Rashtrapati ka Nishaan’ is the highest honour that can be bestowed upon any military unit.
    • The AFMC is a premier Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) establishment and one of the leading medical colleges of the country.
    • The award is a testament to the glorious 75 years of AFMC’s exemplary service to the nation.
» The President also virtually inaugurated the Armed Forces Centre for Computational Medicine ‘Prajna’.
    • ‘Prajna’, the Armed Forces Centre for Computational Medicine, which will place Armed Forces Medical College in league with leading global institutes undertaking cutting-edge healthcare research using Artificial Intelligence.
About AFMC:
    • The AFMC, the fountainhead of medical education in the Armed Forces Medical Services, is known the world over for its ethos and highest standards of medical training.
    • It was established in May 1948 as a post–graduate teaching institution after World War II on the recommendation of Shri BC Roy Committee. The AFMC Graduate Wing was added on 04 Aug 1962, to train medical graduates for Indian Armed Forces.
    • The medical cadets passing out from the portals of this revered institute get commissioned into the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

4th edition of ASEAN India Grassroots Innovation Forum (AIGIF 2023)

⇒ The 4th edition of the annual ASEAN India Grassroots Innovation Forum (AIGIF) was launched on 28 November 2023 in Langkawi, Malaysia. Mr YB Chang Lih Kang, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Government of Malaysia launched the AIGIF 2023.

The AIGIF is an annual programme focused on fostering a strengthened relationship between India and AMS on the premise of cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI). While on one side it aims to give exposure to social innovations in different countries, it also strengthens governance in the grassroots innovation ecosystem.

» India along with 10 ASEAN Member States (AMS) were represented by 200 participants at the 4th edition of the annual ASEAN India Grassroots Innovation Forum.

The annual program was a collaboration between-
    • ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology, and Innovation (COSTI)
    • Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India
    • National Innovation Foundation (NIF) – India
    • Science and Technology Ministry of the host nation
Hosted by:
    • The 4th edition of ASEAN India Grassroots Innovation Forum (AIGIF), a flagship programme, was hosted by Malaysia’s Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI).
    • Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia (YIM) is an agency under MOSTI which executed the AIGIF 2023.
Highlights:

On the 3-day AIGIF encompassed speaker sessions, panel discussions, exhibition of innovations and two innovation competitions — Grassroots innovation and Student innovation where a total of 11 countries – India and 10 AMS participated.

Two grassroots innovators and one student innovator from India won prizes in the grassroots innovation and student innovation competition respectively at AIGIF 2023.
    • Dipak Bharali from Sualkuchi, Kamrup, Assam, India won the 1st prize in the grassroots innovation competition category for the innovation Weft Insertion Device; while Mr Sunil Shinde from Jalna, Maharashtra won the 3rd prize in the grassroots innovation competition category for the innovation Silkworm Breeding Net Folding Machine.
    • In the student innovation competition, Ms Aanchal Aggarwal from Delhi has won the 3rd prize for her innovation Parkinson Lathi.

Building upon the triumphs of past editions in Jakarta, Indonesia (2018), Davao, Philippines (2019), and Phnom Penh, Cambodia (2022), AIGIF 2023 magnified its commitment to surmount societal challenges through heightened participation and collaboration at Langkawi, Malaysia.

Samvidhan Diwas (Constitution Day), 2023

⇒ President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu graced the Constitution Day celebrations organised by the Supreme Court of India, in New Delhi on November 26, 2023.

The Samvidhan Diwas (Constitution Day) is celebrated every year on 26 November to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India.

The Ministry of Law and Justice, in collaboration with Indian Law Institute celebrated Constitution Day on November 26 at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.

Book Launch:

The event also saw the release of two books published by the Ministry of Law and Justice and Indian Law Institute titled ‘ A Guide to Alternative Dispute Resolution’ and ‘Perspectives on Constitution and Development’ respectively.

    • ‘A Guide to Alternative Dispute Resolution’ is an endeavour by the Department of Legal Affairs to enable the common citizens of the country to understand the framework of arbitration and mediation existing in India. It is a publication which would be a ready reckoner for comprehending the benefits and advantages of these mechanisms for timely, cost effective and efficacious dispute resolution.
    • The second book ‘Perspectives on Constitution and Development’ is a compilation of articles and lectures delivered by eminent academicians and scholars as a part of a lecture series organised to mark the 75th anniversary of India’s independence. The book contains insightful reflections of illustrious academicians and jurists about the constitutional democratic set up of India, its working over the years and the challenges and possibilities of reform.
About Constitution Day:
    • Constitution Day is also known as ‘Samvidhan Divas’. This day is celebrated to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India and to honour and acknowledge the contribution of our Founding Fathers.
    • On 26th November 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution of India, which came into effect from 26th January 1950.
    • The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment on 19th November 2015 notified the decision of Government of India to celebrate the 26th day of November every year as ‘Constitution Day’ to promote Constitution values among citizens.
