Important Day

Indian Army Celebrates 77th Infantry Day 2023

⇒ Infantry Day is commemorated on 27 October every year to acknowledge the contributions of Infantry, the largest fighting arm of the Indian Army.

This day has a unique significance for the Nation, as it was on this day in 1947 that Infantry-men from the Indian Army became the first troops to land at Srinagar airport, an act which turned back the invaders from the outskirts of Srinagar, and saved the state of Jammu and Kashmir from a Pakistan backed tribal invasion.

History:
    • Infantry Day is celebrated every year to commemorate the landing of the 1st Battalion of the SIKH Regiment at Srinagar airfield on 27 Oct 1947 to protect the people of Jammu & Kashmir from the nefarious designs of Pakistani Kabaili Raiders aided by the Pakistan Army.
    • This gallant action resulted in foiling of Pakistan’s plans to occupy Jammu & Kashmir. Infantry is also known as the “Queen of the Battle” and it’s history is as old as the first human war.
    • The infantry has played a crucial role in the army in protecting the sovereignty of the nation since independence. Be it the war of 1962 with China or of 1947-48 with Pakistan, be it the war of 1965, 71 or 1999 Kargil conflict.
    • The contribution of infantry in triumphing these historical wars is unparallel.
