National:
  • Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti and Social Justice & Empowerment Sh. Rattan Lal Kataria on 21st October, 2020 launched a Mobile application for Geo tagging of the components of projects under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana- Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme (PMKSY-AIBP) of the Department of WR, RD& GR under Ministry of Jal Shakti.
    The Ministry with the help of Bhaskaracharya National Institute of Space Applications & Geoinformatics (BISAG-N) has developed and launched the mobile application, to track the pace of work and actual status of the projects.
  • Union MoS (I/C) DoNER, MoS (PP) Dr. Jitendra Singh, on 21st October, 2020 presided over the 317th Executive Council meeting of the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA). Dr Jitendra Singh was elected the new chairman of the council.
  • Union Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan launches eco-friendly, efficient and DME fired “Aditi Urja Sanch” unit along with the DME-LPG blended fuel cylinders at CSIR-NCL (National Chemical Laboratory), Pune on 21st October, 2020.
    It was handed over on a trial basis, for common public and CSIR-NCL canteen use at CSIR-NCL premises. CSIR-NCL has developed nation’s first pilot plant operated with clean and cost efficient fuel ‘DME’ with 20-24 Kg/day capacity.
Indian Navy:
  • The last of four indigenously Anti-Submarine Warfare stealth corvette INS Kavaratti (P31) was built under Project 28 (Kamorta Class).
    INS Kavaratti was commissioned into the Indian Navy by General Manoj Mukund Naravane at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam on 22nd October 2020.
Kolkata International Film Festival:
  • Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on 29th October, 2020 said the 26th edition of Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) will be held from January 8 to 15, 2021.
    In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, West Bengal government has rescheduled the Kolkata International Film Festival this year.
Education:
  • Shiv Nadar Foundation announced university in Chennai on 29th October 2020. It will be located at Kalavakkam, spread over an area of 100 acres.
    R Srinivasan will be the chancellor of the university & Dr Kala Vijayakumar has been appointed as the pro-chancellor. Admissions will starts in April 2021 with four specialized courses in disciplines of engineering and commerce.
Appointment:
  • Lieutenant General Nanda Kishore Sahoo, VSM assumed the appointment of Director General Dental Services and Colonel Commandant of Army Dental Corps on 12th October, 2020.
Business:
  • The Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd and Tech Mahindra signed a contract worth Rs 400 crore recently in Bengaluru. The contract has been signed for implementation of the Enterprise Resource Planning to support HAL’s ‘Project Parivartan’.
    Project Parivartan is a comprehensive business transformation exercise through technology enhancement and centralized ERP. As a system integrator, Tech Mahindra would implement Project Parivartan over a period of nine years.
Environment:
  • Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched the “Green Delhi” mobile application on 29th October 2020. This app will be used to lodge photo-based complaints by Delhi citizens, to take action against & redress specific pollution activities.
Death:
  • Former chief minister of Gujarat Keshubhai Patel died on 29th October, 2020. He was 92.
