Sahitya Akademi Awards 2023 were presented at an awards presentation ceremony on 12 March 2024 at Kamani Auditorium, Copernicus Marg, New Delhi.
» Sahitya Akademi announced its annual Sahitya Akademi Awards in 24 languages on 21 December 2023.
- 9 books of poetry, 6 of novel, 5 of short stories, 3 Essays and 1 Literary Study have won the Sahitya Akademi Awards 2023.
- The Awards relate to books first published during the five years immediately preceding the year of Award (i.e. between 1 January 2017 and 31 December 2021).
Prize Money:
The Award is in the form of a casket containing an engraved copper-plaque, a shawl and a cash amount of Rs 1,00,000/- each.
Approved by:
The Awards, recommended by distinguished Jury members in 24 Indian languages, were approved by the Executive Board of the Sahitya Akademi which met on 20th December, 2023 under the Chairmanship of Sri Madhav Kaushik, President, Sahitya Akademi.
Sahityotsav:
» Sahitya Akademi’s annual Festival of Letters was held from 11th to 16th March 2024.
- The award ceremony coincided with the 70th anniversary celebrations of the National Academy of Letters at the ‘Sahityotsav’.
- Sahitya Akademi is completing 70 years this year and to commemorate this occasion, the ‘Sahityotsav’ celebrated every year by the Akademi was celebrated this time as the world’s largest literary festival.

About Sahitya Akademi:
- Sahitya Akademi, India’s National Academy of Letters was established by the Government of India on 12 March 1954.
- Every year since its inception in 1954, the Sahitya Akademi Award prizes to the most outstanding books of literary merit published in any of the major Indian languages recognized by the Akademi. The first Awards were given in 1955.
