National:
  • The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) approved proposals for capital acquisitions worth approximately ₹2,290 crore on 28th September, 2020.
    It includes 72,400 SIG-716 assault rifles from the US for the Army. Under the Buy Indian (IDDM) category, trans-receiver sets for army and Air force & it also includes Smart Anti Airfield Weapon for the Navy and Air Force.
  • Defence minister Rajnath Singh unveiled a new Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) on 28th September, 2020.
    DAP features steps to turn India into a global manufacturing hub of military platforms, reduce timelines for procurement of defence equipment and allow purchase of essential items through capital budget under a simplified mechanism.
  • Films Division, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has organized a fiesta ‘Nrityanjali’ an online film festival on Indian Classical Dance and Maestros from 23 to 25 September, 2020. In the festival, it was showcased 10 films on the life and works of India’s leading classical dancers.

Sitara Devi, Yamini Krishnamurthy, Raja-Radha, Guru Amubi Singh, A Luminous Jewel –Pt. Birju Maharaj, Kalamandalam Gopi, Padma, Kanak Rele, Sonal, Dreamer – Swapna Sundari.

Appointment:
  • Alapan Bandopadhyay has been named as the new chief secretary of West Bengal, on 28th September, 2020. He is a 1987-batch IAS officer of West Bengal cadre. He will join his new post on October 1 & take over from Rajiva Sinha. Rajiva Sinha will retire on Sep 30.
International:
  • Saudi Arabia is presiding over the Group of 20 countries (G 20) this year on November 21-22.
    On 28th September 2020, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia said, the upcoming November gathering of world leaders will be held virtually amid the coronavirus pandemic. G 20 virtual summit will be chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. G-20 summit was originally planned to hold at Riyadh.
  • Mali’s transitional president has appointed Moctar Ouane, former minister of foreign affairs as the West African nation’s prime minister on 28th September, 2020.
    On 26th September, 2020, Former Defense Minister and retired Col. Maj. Bah N’Daw were inducted as the new transitional president, while head of the junta Col. Assimi Goita was joined as Mali’s new vice president. The three government heads are to lead the transitional government to an election in 18 months.
Death:
  • Veteran versatile writer Dr G S Amur died on 28th September, 2020. He was 95. He was conferred with several prestigious honours like Sahitya Akademi Award, Rajyotsava Award and Bharatiya Bhasha Award.
Others:
  • MedSpark, the medical devices park envisaged as a joint initiative of Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology (SCTIMST) and the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (KSIDC) is going to be established in the Life Science Park, Thonnakkal, Thiruvananthapuram. Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan laid the foundation stone for Medical Devices Park on 24th September 2020.
