2021 Global Liveability Index Published by EIU

The 2021 Global Liveability Index was published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).

In the EIU report, New Zealand and Australian cities dominate the top ten, owing to their strong response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Liveability Index examined 140 cities worldwide to quantify the challenges presented to an individual’s lifestyle in the past year. The data for the liveability survey was collected from February 22, 2020, to March 21, 2021.

Each city is assigned a liveability score for more than 30 qualitative and quantitative factors across five categories:
  1. Stability
  2. Healthcare
  3. Culture and environment
  4. Education
  5. Infrastructure

As per the the 2021 EIU’s Global Liveability Ranking, with an average score of 68.6, cities in the Asia-Pacific region scored below the average of 73.

In the Global Liveability Ranking 2021 finds that Auckland is the most liveable city in the world while Damascus remains the world’s least liveable city.

In the ten least liveable cities, Karachi (134th) and Dhaka (137th) are included from the Asia-Pacific region.
