'herSTART' – a start-up platform of Gujarat University

⇒ The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, launched ‘herSTART’ – a start-up platform of Gujarat University in Ahmedabad on October 4, 2022.

    • She also inaugurated/laid the foundation stone virtually from Gujarat University for various projects of the government of Gujarat related to education and tribal development.
About ‘herSTART’:
    • The herSTART platform is an initiative by Gujarat University Startup and Entrepreneurship Council (GUSEC), aimed at supporting women-led startups in scaling up.
    • The herSTART platform will support women entrepreneurs in helping their innovative ideas take off, and will also feature a digital platform to provide resources and training modules free of cost to aspiring women entrepreneurs, a digital community, and a digital publication to spread their success stories.
    • The platform will also include the herSTART Incubator, a dedicated full-fledged startup incubator for women entrepreneurs and innovators; and the herSTART Accelerator, a round-the-year accelerator programme for high-impact women-led startups, both of which were launched by the President.

New Director General Ordnance (C&S)

⇒ Shri Sanjeev Kishore, a 1985 batch officer of the Indian Ordnance Factory Service (IOFS), has taken over as the Director General Ordnance (C&S) with effect from 01 October 2022 upon the superannuation of Shri M K Grag.

About Shri Sanjeev Kishore:
    • Before taking over the charge of DGO (C &S), Shri Kishore was the Additional Director General Ordnance at the Directorate of Ordnance (Coordination & Services), Kolkata.
    • Shri Kishore has served in diverse roles and in varied technological environments. He has been awarded Santu Sahaney Memorial Shield and Ayudh Bhushan award for his meritorious services for enhancing defence production.

Director General of Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC)

⇒ Dr. Rajendra Kumar, a senior IAS officer took over the charge of Director General of Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) under Ministry of Labour & Employment in New Delhi on 04 October 2022.

    • The headquarters of Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) is in New Delhi.
About Dr. Rajendra Kumar:
    • Dr. Rajendra Kumar is a senior IAS officer of 1992 batch of Tamil Nadu Cadre.
    • Before assuming the charge of Director General, ESIC, Dr. Rajendra Kumar, IAS has served as an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeiTY) in the Government of India.
    • Dr Rajendra Kumar has got vast experience of governance and management of District & State level Organisations. He has also served as the Principal Secretary in the Departments of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Youth Welfare & Sports Development in the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Global News Forum 2022

⇒ Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr L. Murugan delivered the keynote address at Global News Forum 2022 meeting in New Delhi on 04 October 2022.

Addressing a gathering of representatives of various news organisations from the Asia-Pacific region, Dr Murugan said that it is in times of crises television news channels must become prudent and truth and trust must become the maxim to abide by.

The topic of the Global News Forum ‘Truth and Trust at times of Crisis’ is very apt and its importance in increased manifolds following the COVID19 pandemic that was also referred to as an infodemic, he said.

About Global News Forum 2022:

Global News Forum 2022 is the ABU’s flagship three days annual NEWS event hosting around 80 foreign participants from the field of Media & Journalism from different broadcasting organizations.

    • The Global News Forum 2022 held from 3rd to 5th October 2022.
Theme:

The theme of the Global News Forum 2022 was “Truth and trust at times of crisis”.

Discussion:

Discussions were held on various important broadcasting and journalism related issues prevailing across the globe in relevance to the theme of Global News Forum 2022.

About Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU):
    • ABU was established in 1964 as a non-profit, non- governmental, non-political, professional association with mandate to assist the development of broadcasting organisations in the region currently Headquartered at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
    • ABU promotes the collective interests of television and radio broadcasters as well as key industry players and also facilitate regional and international media cooperation for members.
    • It has over 253 members in over 67 countries in Pacific region, Asia (South east, North, South, Central), Middle East, Europe, North Africa and North America, reaching a potential audience of about 2 billion people.
    • Doordarshan (DD) & All India Radio (AIR) both are Full Members of ABU. All India Radio was a founding member of the ABU in the year 1964 while Doordarshan joined ABU in the year 1976.

First Training Squadron (1TS) at Port Al-Shuwaikh, Kuwait

⇒ The ships of First Training Squadron (1TS) comprising INS Tir, Sujata and CGS Sarathi arrived at Port Al-Shuwaikh, Kuwait on 04 October 2022. The ships were deployed in the Persian Gulf as part of their training deployment.

Key Points:
    • The ships were accorded a warm welcome by senior officers of the Kuwaiti Naval forces, Border Guard and the Embassy of India officials besides school children.
    • The three-day port call included professional engagements, cross ship visits, community outreach and social interactions.
    • The ships of 1TS, based at Kochi, are part of the Southern Naval Command, Indian Navy’s Training Command.
    • The deployment of 1TS was aimed at exposing the trainees towards conduct of various evolutions at sea and port familiarisation.
