TRIFED’s TRIBES India store products tagged with One District One Product and Geographical Indication (GI)

⇒ The One District One Product (ODOP) programme under Department of Commerce and Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry is aimed at creating sustainable employment at the district level while promoting holistic socio-economic development. The idea is to select, brand, and promote one product from each district of the country.

In pursuance of the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi’s clarion call on Aatma Nirbhar Bharat and with India’s current G20 Presidency, several initiatives are being undertaken by DPIIT, Government of India. This will help promote indigenous products from each district of the nation.

» To further this vision, ODOP mapped and tagged the overlapping tribal products at the TRIBES India store at the Aadi Mahotsav organized by Tribal Co-operative Marketing Federation of India from 16-27 February, 2023 at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi.

» The ODOP and GI x TRIFED product launch was held at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium during the Aadi Mahotsav.

    • A diverse collection of tribal products representing all parts of the country was available at TRIFED’s TRIBES India Retail store.
The ODOP and GI tagging was done for a range of products, including-

Kullu Shawl from Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, Darjeeling Tea from Darjeeling, West Bengal, Blue Pottery from Jaipur, Rajasthan, Bidriware from Bidar, Karnataka, Pattachitra paintings from Puri, Odisha, Bagh Prints from Dhar, Madhya Pradesh, Coffee from Wayanad, Kerala, Bastar Craft from Kondagaon, Chhattisgarh & Rice-Jeeraphool from Balrampur, Chhattisgarh.

    • The tagging is intended to create awareness about the sources of products representing different districts of India.
    • ODOP plans to further this campaign by engaging other such stores and emporiums that have overlaps with the products under ODOP to boost the morale of artisans and weaver clusters by giving them a larger platform to display their craft and bringing it to the forefront.

Indian Army Organizes Seminar on 'MILITARY JURISPRUDENCE'

⇒ The Institute of Military Law of the Indian Army organised a seminar on “Evolution & Future of Military Jurisprudence – An Indian Army Perspective” at the Manekshaw Centre, Delhi Cantonment, New Delhi on 25 February 2023.

Ms Justice Hima Kohli, Judge Supreme Court, was the Chief Guest.

Institute of Military Law is a premier Institute, one of its kind in Asia which imparts knowledge on Military Law to uniformed personnel.

Focus:

The seminar focused on the evolution of Military Law in India to generate lessons from erstwhile and contemporary challenges to suggest a way forward to strengthen it and align with the Global Military Jurisprudence.

Director General Quality Assurance

⇒ Lt Gen RS Reen took over as Director General Quality Assurance on February 24, 2023.

A 1986-batch officer, Lt Gen Reen is an alumnus of Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. The Officer has headed a Senior Quality Assurance Estt., Brig at Headquarters, Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA) and was Controller (Missile System) in Secunderabad. The Officer headed the DQA(L) as Additional Director General (Electronics) at HQ DGQA, New Delhi.

About DGQA:
    • The DGQA is an Inter-Service Organisation functioning under the Department of Defence Production in the Ministry of Defence.
    • It is responsible for second party Quality Assurance of all defence stores and equipment, both imported as well as indigenous, for the Indian Army, Indian Navy (excluding Naval Armaments) and common user items for the Indian Air Force procured from private sector and public sector undertakings.

Women-20 (W-20) Inception Meeting

⇒ The two-day Women-20 (W-20) Inception Meet was held at Aurangabad, Maharashtra from February 27-28, 2023.

Theme:

‘Pursuit of gender equality, equity and dignity for women-led development’ was the theme of the Inception meeting and it aimed to discuss, deliberate and develop a cogent strategy to target gender-related issues.

    • In this meet, around 150 women dignitaries from member countries, guest countries, and special invitees participated.

The Women-20 (W-20) India inaugurated its inception meeting in Aurangabad on February 27, 2023, in the presence of Union Women and Child Development Minister Smt Smriti Zubin Irani, G-20 India Sherpa Shri Amitabh Kant and other ministers.

W-20 India Chair Dr Sandhya Purecha, Founding Chair of W-20 Ms. Gülden Türktan and W-20 India Chief Coordinator Smt. Dharitri Patnaik were also present.

Addressing the delegates at the Inaugural Ceremony, Smt Smriti Zubin Irani spoke about the five priority areas of W20 under India’s Presidency, namely- Women’s Leadership at the Grassroots, Female Enterprise and Female Prowess in the Agriculture Sector, Bridging the Digital divide, Education and Skill Development and Women and Girls as Changemakers in Climate Resilience Action.

About W 20:

» Women 20 (W20) is the official G20 engagement group focused on gender equity. W20 is an official engagement group under the G20 which was established during the Turkish presidency in 2015.

    • Its primary objective is to ensure that gender considerations are mainstreamed into G20 discussions and translated into the G20 Leaders’ Declaration as policies and commitments that foster gender equality and women’s economic empowerment.
    • With the vision to create a world of equality & equity where every woman lives with dignity, W20 aims to remove all barriers to women-led development and ensure an enabling environment and ecosystem for women to thrive, transcend and transform their lives as well as others.
The Goals of W20 are:
    1. Inclusive consultations and action leading to a Powerful and impactful Communique
    2. Feed W20 recommendations into the G20 consultations and negotiations
    3. Influence and feed into the G20 Leaders’ Declaration and G20 Communique
    4. Establish a stronger W20 global and national network
    5. Ensure continuity of W20 agenda
There are five priority areas of W20 under India’s Presidency which include-
    • Women in Entrepreneurship,
    • Women Leadership at Grassroots,
    • Bridging the Gender Digital Divide,
    • Education & Skill Development, and
    • Women & Girls as change makers Climate Resilience Action
Areas of Focus:
    • Diplomatic solutions to global issues
    • Focus on food security and traditional food. Celebrate International Year of the Millet in 2023
    • Clean energy and solutions to global climate crisis
    • Women led development
Day 1: February 27

The various sessions on Day-1 of the W-20 Inception Meet focussed on a wide range of issues like:

    • Session 1: Empowering Women in Nano, Micro, and Startup enterprises
    • Session 2: Role of Women as Changemakers in Climate Resilience Action
    • Session 3: Creating an Enabling Ecosystem for Women Leaders at the Grassroots
    • Session 4: Improving Access through Infrastructure & Skill to bridge the Gender Digital Divide
    • Session 5: Creating Pathways for Women through Education & Skilling

» Day 1 of the W20 inception meeting concluded with a special session on “Women-led Development in India”.

Day 2: February 28

» Day-2 of the inception meeting started with a special session on the theme “Breaking the Barriers: The Stories of Unconventional Women”.

» Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sonal along with Dr. Sandhya Purecha launched a coffee table book called “Avvaya“, highlighting the contribution of women to the heritage city of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar.

» The session also saw the participation of bravehearts from Indian Navy – Shazia Khan, Disha Amrith, Tavishi Singh, and Swati Bhandari who rose above the social fabric to quash the patriarchal ideas that restrict women from entering certain sectors.

» The sixth session of the W-20 Inception Meet, titled ‘Enablers of Women-led Development: Policy and Legal Framework’ focused on the role of policy and legal framework as enablers of women-led development and economic empowerment.

Important Day

National War Memorial observes its 4th anniversary

⇒ The National War Memorial (NWM) observed its fourth anniversary on February 25, 2023.

History:
    • The Memorial, which stands testimony to the sacrifices made by the brave soldiers since Independence, was dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on February 25, 2019.
    • A number of initiatives were taken by the Government to take the gallant deeds of the bravehearts to maximum people, especially the youth, with the aim to inculcate the sense of patriotism, courage, sacrifice and devotion to duty. The initiatives have evoked an encouraging response from the public.
