National:

‘KAVACH’ & ‘AMPHEX-21’ Joint Exercise of Indian Navy, Indian Army, & Indian Air force:
  • A large-scale tri-service joint amphibious exercise ‘AMPHEX-21’ was conducted in Andaman & Nicobar group of islands from 21 to 25 January, 2021.

The exercise involved participation of Naval ships, amphibious troops of the Army and different types of aircraft from the Air force.

‘KAVACH’ Exercise were also conducted as part of AMPHEX-21 for defence of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Indian Armed Forces conducted a large-scale conjoint military training exercise “KAVACH” alongwith “AMPHEX-21” in the Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal. Read More

Appointment of New Director of IDRBT:
  • Prof D Janakiram has taken over as the new Director of Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT), on January 24, 2021.
Newly Constituted Chennai Bench of the NCLAT:
  • Union Minister for Finance Nirmala Sitharaman virtually inaugurated the Chennai Bench of National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) on 25th January 2021.

Two Members of NCLAT, New Delhi, Balvinder Singh, Member (Technical), and Justice Venugopal M have taken charge of the newly constituted Chennai Bench of the NCLAT.

The Chennai Bench of the NCLAT will have jurisdiction to hear appeals from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Lakshwadeep, and Puducherry.

The NCLAT now functions at a strength of 5 courts, 4 at the Principal Bench in New Delhi and the fifth at Chennai.

Five new Benches of the NCLAT have been announced at Jaipur, Cuttack, Kochi, Indore and Amaravati.

Agri-Food Techathon 2021:
  • Union Education Minister, Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ inaugurated the ‘Agri-Food Techathon 2021’ on 25 January 2021. He also laid the foundation for Agri-Business Incubation Centre at IIT-Kharagpur. 
    Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, in collaboration with NABARD, organised the ‘Agri-Food Techathon 2021’ (AFT 2021).

This is a first-of-its-kind event to promote the participation of India’s youth in innovation and entrepreneurship in different domains of the Agri-Food sector. This is a national level online technical fest during January to March 2021. 

Important Day:

  • Indian Council of Medical Research – National Centre for Disease Informatics and Research (ICMR-NCDIR), Bengaluru celebrated Foundation Day on 25th January 2021.

Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Health Minister of Family Welfare presided over the Foundation Day and launch of the Decadal year of ICMR-NCDIR.

Death:

  • Former Indian National team goalkeeper Prasanta Dora died on 26th January 2021. He was 44.

He was part of Mohun Bagan in 2001 and then from 2003 to 05. He was adjudged best goalkeeper in Bengal’s successive Santosh Trophy triumphs in 1997-98 and 1998-99.
