Aadi Mahotsav - National Tribal Festival, Ahmedabad

⇒ Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Shri Arjun Munda and Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the Aadi Mahotsav at Ahmedabad on 25 October 2023 and paid a reverent tribute to Bhagwan Birsa Munda.

Organized by:
    • The 10-day mega event was organized by the TRIFED (Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India), Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
    • The mega event was organized from 25th October – 3rd November, 2023, at the Ahmedabad Haat, Vastrapur, Ahmedabad.
Theme:

The theme of the festival was ‘Celebration of Tribal Entrepreneurship, Crafts, Culture and Commerce’. 

Key Points:
    • The Aadi Mahotsav serves as a unique, symbiotic bridge to embark on a journey through the tapestry of India’s indigenous heritage.
    • The Aadi Mahotsav featured the exhibition-cum-sale of tribal handicrafts, art, paintings, fabric, jewellery, cuisine and much more through 100 stalls.
    • More than 200 tribal artisans and artists from across the country participated in the festival.
    • This Aadi Mahotsav showcased ‘Millets grown by Tribals’ besides other attractions of handicrafts, handloom, pottery, jewellery.

Ayurvedic Hospital in Majuli, Assam

⇒ The Union Minister for Ayush, Ports, Shipping & Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the 50 bedded Ayurvedic Hospital at Sriram Chapori in Majuli on 07 October 2023.

    • The hospital is aimed at further strengthening the Ayush healthcare system in the state.
About Hospital:
    • The new hospital is equipped with specialised OPD services for Shalya (General Surgery), Prastuti Tantra & Stree Roga or PTSR (Obstetrics & Gynaecology), Panchakarma as well as Kayachikitsa (General Medicine).
    • Apart from it, a modern laboratory, Panchakarma & Ksharasutra Therapy set ups, a Yoga unit, Anorectal clinic, Infertility clinic, Geriatric & rejuvenative clinic, Rheumatology clinic, Lifestyle Disorders as well as Skin & Cosmetic clinic are also available at the newly opened hospital.
    • In the OPD section, 50 patients will be treated at a time.

» Speaking on the occasion, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal also announced that 6 new Ayush hospitals are being planned to set up in Assam.

    • Among them, four 50 bedded hospitals to come up in Kaliabor, Morigaon, Kokrajhar and Baksa, while one 30 bedded hospital will come up in Diphu and one 10 bedded hospital in Bajali.
    • Apart from these, the Union Ayush Minister also confirmed operationalisation of 289 Ayush Health & Wellness Centres in the state, while 200 more AHWCs will be operational in Assam soon.
    • Sonowal also announced that 100 Ayush dispensaries will be set up in all districts of Assam.

International

India elected President of AIBD for the third consecutive time

⇒ In an unprecedented development where India had already served two terms as President, Asia- Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development General Conference, India has been elected as President of AIBD GC for the 3rd successive term to lead the prestigious international organisation.

    • India had already served two terms as the President of the Asia- Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) General Conference (GC) from 2018 – 2021 and 2021 – 2023.
About GC 2023:

» The 21st General Conference & Associated Meetings 2023 (GC 2023) of Asia- Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) was chaired by its President Shri Gaurav Dwivedi, CEO Prasar Bharati.

    • It was successfully concluded on October 02-04, 2023 in Port Louis, Mauritius.
    • The two-day Conference was mandated to achieve a vibrant and cohesive electronic media environment in the Asia- Pacific region through policy and resource development.
About AIBD:
    • AIBD, established in 1977 under the auspices of UNESCO, is a unique regional inter-governmental organisation.
    • Currently, it has 92 member organisations from across 44 countries, including 26 Government Members (countries) represented by 48 broadcasting authorities and broadcasters, and 44 Affiliates (organisations) of which represented by 28 countries and regions in Asia, Pacific, Europe, Africa, Arab States and North America.
    • India is one of the founding members of AIBD and Prasar Bharati, India’s public service broadcaster is the representative body of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Govt of India at AIBD.

9th G20 Parliamentary Speakers' Summit (P20)

⇒ The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the 9th G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P20) at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi on 13 October 2023.

9th G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P-20) was held from 13th to 14th October 2023 at the newly constructed India International Convention and Expo Center (IICC), Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, New Delhi.

Hosted by:
    • The summit was hosted by the Parliament of India.
    • The G20 P20 summit, hosted by the world’s largest democracy, brought together parliamentarians from around the world to reaffirm their commitment to continue their joint work to deliver effective and meaningful parliamentary contributions to the G20 process.
Theme:

In line with the theme of India’s G20 Presidency, the theme of the 9th P20 Summit was “Parliaments for One Earth, One Family, One Future.”

Participation:
    • The event was attended by Speakers of Parliaments of G20 members and invitee countries.
    • The Pan-African Parliament also took part in the P20 Summit for the first time after the African Union became a member of G20 at the New Delhi G20 Leaders’ Summit on September 9-10, 2023.
The thematic sessions during this P20 Summit focussed on the following four subjects –
    • Transformation in People’s Lives through Public Digital Platforms
    • Women-led development
    • Accelerating SDGs
    • Sustainable Energy Transition
Pre-Event:

A pre-summit Parliamentary Forum on LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) was also held on October 12, 2023, to deliberate upon initiatives towards a greener and sustainable future in harmony with nature.

Day 1:

» The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the 9th G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P20). “The Summit is a ‘Maha Kumbh’ of all Parliamentary practices from across the globe”, the Prime Minister remarked.

After the Prime Minister’s address, the following sessions were held:

Session 1: One Earth, One Family, One Future

    • Agenda 2030 for SDGs: Showcasing Achievements, Accelerating Progress

Session 2: One Earth

    • Sustainable Energy Transition- Gateway to Green Future

Session 3: One Family

    • Mainstreaming Gender Equality- from Women’s Development to Women-led Development

Session 4: One Future

    • Transformation in People’s Lives through Public Digital Platforms
Conclusion:
    • In the end, the Presiding Officers unanimously adopted a Joint Statement under the Chairmanship of Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla.
    • At the conclusion of India’s P20 presidency, the Lok Sabha Speaker handed over the presidency to the Parliament of Brazil.
Day 2:

The Vice-President of India and Chairman, of Rajya Sabha, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, hosted lunch for delegates of participating nations on the occasion of the 9th G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P20) at Yashobhoomi on the second day of the summit.
