PM inaugurates Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research

⇒ The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (SMSIMSR) at Chikkaballapur, Karnataka on 25 March 2023. The institute will start functioning in the academic year 2023.

Established by:

The institute was established by Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence at Sathya Sai Grama, Muddenahalli, Chikkaballapur.

Situated in a rural area and established with a vision of de-commercialising medical education and healthcare, SMSIMSR will provide medical education and quality medical care – completely free of cost – to all.

PM inaugurates Whitefield to Krishnarajapura Metro Line of Bangalore Metro

⇒ The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Whitefield (Kadugodi) to Krishnarajapura Metro Line of Bangalore Metro on 25 March 2023.

About Metro:

The Prime Minister has had a special focus on the development of world-class urban mobility infrastructure across the country.

    • In line with this, the 13.71 km stretch from Whitefield (Kadugodi) Metro to Krishnarajapura Metro Line of Reach-1 extension project under Bangalore Metro Phase 2 was inaugurated by the Prime Minister at Whitefield (Kadugodi) Metro Station.
    • Built at a cost of around Rs 4250 crores, the inauguration of this metro line will provide a clean, safe, rapid and comfortable travel facility to commuters in Bengaluru, enhancing the ease of mobility and reducing traffic congestion in the city.

Vedic Heritage Portal and Kala Vaibhav (virtual museum)

⇒ Union Home and Cooperation Minister, Shri Amit Shah inaugurated the Vedic Heritage Portal and Kala Vaibhav (virtual museum) at Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) campus in New Delhi on 23 March 2023.

Built by:

Vedic heritage portal and a virtual museum (Kala Vaibhav) has been built by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts.

Vedic Heritage Portal:
    • The portal aims to communicate message enshrined in the Vedas. It will help common people to have a general understanding about the Vedas.
    • The portal will be a one-stop solution for the user, who would like to search any information regarding the Vedic heritage.
    • The audio-visual recording of four vedas have been uploaded on the Vedic Heritage portal.
    • This portal has over 18 thousand mantras of the four vedas with a duration of over 550 hours.
    • The Vedic Heritage Portal has been prepared in Hindi and English languages.

» The virtual museum, based on 64 arts, the world will be more familiar with India’s architecture, painting, drama and music and the world will know the rich history of India’s glorious culture.

About IGNCA:
    • The Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts was launched on 19 November 1985 by Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
    • Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi is a premier government-funded arts organization in India. It is an autonomous institute under the Union Ministry of Culture.

2nd G20 Trade and Investment Working Group (TIWG) Meeting

⇒ The 2nd Trade and Investment Working Group Meeting (TIWG) under India’s G20 Presidency was organized in Bengaluru from May 23 – 25, 2023.

Over 100 delegates from G20 member countries, invitee countries, regional groupings and international organizations participated during the three-day meeting.

    • Delegates deliberated on reforming the multilateral trading system, integrating MSMEs in global trade, resilient Global Value Chains (GVCs), making trade work for growth and prosperity, and efficient logistics for trade.
Day 1:

The first day of the TIWG Meeting witnessed a seminar on Trade and Technology as a side event. The seminar on ‘Technology & Trade’ was inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Shri Som Parkash.

    • Delegates discussed how technology is reshaping trade. They also deliberated on the transformative tools that can revolutionise manufacturing & trade. The discussions deliberated on the disruptive role of technology in driving inclusive growth and resilient trade.
Day 2:

On the 2nd Day, Union Ministers of State, Smt Anupriya S Patel and Shri Som Parkash shared their remarks at the opening session at the 2nd TIWG Meet.

    • The subject of WTO Reform, which is one of the priorities pursued by the Indian Presidency, was taken up for discussion in a technical session. The emphasis of this session was on reaffirming WTO’s foundational principles, as embodied in the Marrakesh Agreement and its multilateral trade agreements, thus recognizing the need for open, inclusive and transparent functioning of WTO.
    • Continuing with deliberations, the G20 India delegates focused on High-Level Principles for the digitalisation of trade documents. They also discussed an action plan to create Meta Information Portal for promoting MSMEs.
Day 3:

On the third day of the meeting, the delegates focused on deliverables about the framework for mapping Global Value Chains, a compendium of best practices on Mutual Recognition Agreements & G20 Regulatory Dialogue.

2023 IBA Women's World Boxing Championships

⇒ The 2023 IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships was held in New Delhi, India from 15 to 26 March 2023.

It was the 13th edition of the IBA (International Boxing Association) Women’s World Boxing Championships. 324 boxers from 65 nations participated in the championship.

Performance of India:

» India won a total of 4 gold medals. India topped the medal tally for the first time since 2006.

Gold:

Minimumweight Category: Nitu Ghanghas

    • Commonwealth Games gold medalist Nitu Ghanghas won the gold medal in the Women’s World Boxing finals after defeating the two-time Asian Championships bronze medallist Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg of Mongolia.
    • Nitu Ghanghas won the gold medal in the minimum weight 48 kg category.
    • Nitu Ghanghas won her first-ever World Championship gold medal.

Light Flyweight Category: Nikhat Zareen

    • Indian Boxer from Telangana, Nikhat Zareen won the gold medal in the Light flyweight 50 kg category by defeating Thi Tham Nguyen of Vietnam.
    • Nikhat Zareen won her second Women’s World Boxing Championships Gold medal.
    • Nikhat has become only the 2nd Indian female boxer after Mary Kom to win multiple gold medals at the IBA Women’s World Championships.

Middleweight: Lovlina Borgohain

    • Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain won the gold medal in the Middleweight 75 kg category by defeating Australian boxer Caitlin Parker 5-2.
    • Lovlina Borgohain won her maiden World Championship gold medal.

Light heavyweight: Saweety Boora

    • Saweety Boora won the gold medal in the light heavyweight 75-81 kg category by defeating Wang Lina of China.
    • Saweety create history, wins her first-ever World Championships gold medal.
    • This is India’s first ever gold in the worlds in the light heavyweight category.
