130.1 MW Dagmara HE Project, in Supaul, Bihar

⇒ A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between NHPC Limited and Bihar State Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited (BSHPC) for Implementation of 130.1 MW Dagmara HE Project, in Supaul district of Bihar on 14th June 2021.

The 130.1 MW Dagmara HE Project, the largest hydropower project of Bihar is to be implemented by NHPC on ownership basis.

NHPC is a Miniratna Company under Ministry of Power in the field of Hydropower. Currently, NHPC has 24 operational power stations with a total installed capacity of 7071 MW.

New Waste Water Treatment Technology

⇒ A new waste water treatment technology has been developed that will reduce costs for automobile servicing industry, food industry, and other low and medium scale enterprises.

About Technology:

The technology uses a combination of Electrocoagulation and Electroflotation Enhanced Membrane Module (ECEFMM) techniques for waste water treatment.

Electrocoagulation is a waste water treatment technique that uses electrical charge for changing the particle surface charge, allowing suspended matter to form aggregates, and electroflotation is the separation of suspended particles from water using hydrogen and oxygen bubbles generated by passing electricity through water.

The Technology has been developed by Dr Chiranjib Bhattacharjee, Professor at the Chemical Engineering Department in Jadavpur University, Kolkata.

First-ever solo woman motorcycle expedition

⇒ The first-ever solo woman motorcycle expedition was flagged off by Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh on 11 June 2021 from BRO Headquarters in New Delhi. It was organised by Border Roads Organisation (BRO).

Ms Kanchan Ugursandi, a 29-year-old lady biker have 10 years and 21,000 kms of riding experience, took up the challenge to cover a distance of 3,187 kms in 24 days.

Ms Kanchan Ugursandi, a mountain biker, finished in New Delhi the world’s first solo motorcycle expedition covering 18 treacherous passes of northern Himalayan mountain ranges on 7 July 2021. Ugursandi traversed the distance in 25 days.

As part of the expedition, Ugursandi crossed Umlingla Pass, the highest motorable pass at 19,301 feet in the world, built by BRO.

Ms Ugursandi has become the first solo woman biker to scale the Umlingla Pass, the first woman to cover the 18 passes, and also the first woman to traverse a distance of 3,187 kilometre from New Delhi-Manali-Leh-Umlingla-Delhi in one go.

Induction of ALH Mk-III in Coast Guard

⇒  Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar on 12 June 2021 inducted Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) Mk-III in Indian Coast Guard (ICG). The state-of-the-art helicopters are indigenously designed and manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bengaluru.

Budgetary Support to iDEX - DIO

⇒ Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh has approved the budgetary support of Rs 498.8 crore to Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) – Defence Innovation Organisation (DIO) for the next five years.

The scheme, with budgetary support of Rs 498.8 crore, is aimed at providing financial support to nearly 300 start-ups/MSMEs/individual innovators and 20 partner incubators under the DIO framework.

The creation of the iDEX framework and establishment of the DIO by the Department of Defence Production (DDP) is aimed at creating an ecosystem to foster innovation and technology development in defence and aerospace.

⇒ The 2020 UEFA European Football Championship, also known as UEFA Euro 2020, was the 16th edition of UEFA European Championship. It was held from 11 June to 11 July 2021, with 11 host cities.

Italy defeated England to win the European Football Championship title.
