⇒ The first-ever solo woman motorcycle expedition was flagged off by Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh on 11 June 2021 from BRO Headquarters in New Delhi. It was organised by Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
Ms Kanchan Ugursandi, a 29-year-old lady biker have 10 years and 21,000 kms of riding experience, took up the challenge to cover a distance of 3,187 kms in 24 days.
Ms Kanchan Ugursandi, a mountain biker, finished in New Delhi the world’s first solo motorcycle expedition covering 18 treacherous passes of northern Himalayan mountain ranges on 7 July 2021. Ugursandi traversed the distance in 25 days.
As part of the expedition, Ugursandi crossed Umlingla Pass, the highest motorable pass at 19,301 feet in the world, built by BRO.
Ms Ugursandi has become the first solo woman biker to scale the Umlingla Pass, the first woman to cover the 18 passes, and also the first woman to traverse a distance of 3,187 kilometre from New Delhi-Manali-Leh-Umlingla-Delhi in one go.
